Kiressen Badlands (keer-es-en Badlands)

The Kiressen Badlands is one of the wealthiest and most defensible departments of Adma-Alta's holdings.

Structure

The most powerful person in Kiressen is the Duke, then the second most powerful are his associates, business partners, and other noble friends of the Duke. Most other merchants and minor nobles fill up the middle class. Those that fill up the lower classes are those who don't have money attached to their name, just normal people living their lives.

Culture

Kirsennian culture preaches individuality, and success of the individual. It is a firm belief that you are born into your position in life for a year, and that you should work with what you are given. That's why many of the normal people, those not born into wealth, are the people who are out adventuring and discovering things. The nobles are bound to their position, they have to be invovled in governing or finance or the like, while commoners have freedom to chose.

Assets

Kiressen, due to it's location in a badlands, is rich in gold, naturally red sand, and terracotta. These resources are hard to come by anywhere else, so they are treated as a luxury item. Something they also have in abundance is skilled cavers and explorers. Due to the high number of abandoned, close to surface mineshafts, caving is a recognized career and job that pays handsomely depending on what you find.

History

Kiressen was conquered by the growing Adma-Altan Empire in 1BA, just a year before Cambriene started constituting itself into it's own nation. The bloodshed from the invasion was called the Great Slaughter, and forced Kiressen to surrender. After that, it just got worse for the Kirsennians.
Altan commanders ordered the execution of all the heads of noble and royals families, and if the heads' heir was underage, they were assigned an Altan noble as their regent. Indoctrination programs, though they were officially called schools, were opened and quickly started filling up with all age groups.
As time marched on, the indoctrination programs continued on, and began to erase Kirsennian history, culture, and language. Leaving the parts of Kirsennian culture that worked best with Altan culture. This systematic erasure left the Kirsennian identity hollow, almost preformative.
In recent times, the facts of the past were revealed. This realization, that they're culture was systematiclly destroyed by the Empire they gave their loyalty too was startling and unnerving. There have been private calls for secession, and public calls for the indoctrination schools to be shut down. Many Kirsennians have started to help Modrai and Piglins escape from their conscriptions, helping many escape to Cambriene.

Demography and Population

Kiressen's major population centers house most of it's people, with roaming Modra and other nomadic peoples going where they please among the red sands. There is an incentive for couples to have more than two kids and it shows, families can range up to six or eight kids.

Territories

Kiressen, before it was conquered, was noted was one of the premeire powers on the continent. A rising star of economy and wealth, and oasis in the desert. But then, the Adma-Altan Empire started gaining traction. The war between Kiressen and Adma-Alta was brief, but brutal and bloody, with Kiressen surrendering to save themselves the bloodshed. Ever since then it has been a slow subsumtion into the Altan way of life, and the desecration of old Kirsennian traditions. Most Kirsennian's today don't know their own history, most just knowing their Altan history.

Technological Level

Kiressen's technology is geared to gathering and extracting the natural resources of the land. Massive sorters and chests are used to quickly move items to where they need to go. Most of the resources are collected by hand, as TNT bombing extractions were far to dangerous and destroyed to much of the landscape, leading to perilous situations that could've been avoided.

Foreign Relations

Kirsennian's prefer to keep on good terms with as many people as possible, and are nicknamed the most tolerable Altans by outsiders. This is mostly an act, they want the best trade relations so they can export their goods without tarrifs. The Obeski'pec know how to see through this act, and often refuse entrance to Kirsennians.

Education

If you discount the propaganda and biased history and literature texts, the average education is startlingly high. 99% of people who live in cities have a bachelors degree, and the nomadic folks have alteast some college education.

Infrastructure

Most infrastructure after a certain distance away from the cities is geared solely to gold mining, terracotta mining, and collection of red sand. With small exploration centers around large exposed mineshafts.

Major Exports
Kiressen, while not blessed in bountiful soil, is wealthy in gold. Whatever gold they don't use for their own redstone or building projects get exported out to other areas of Adma-Alta, then to the outside world.
Major Imports
Most if not all food has to be imported. The badlands is just not hospitable enough for farming, and turning the sands into soil just isn't worth the hastle.
Legislative Body
Kiressen is ruled entirely by the richest people in the badlands, with only the duke, Duke Heran Yohan V, being able to over rule them.
Executive Body
Hired swords by the Duke or his vassals are the ones who enforce the rules and laws. These hired swords, nicknamed the Duke's swords, are known to be rough and violent. They have full authority to enact "justice" on anyone seen breaking the law, even if that justice is disproportionate to the crime committed.
