Ressurections and revival
Souls within Acrine are strong constructs, but feeble when detached from their source, i.e the body it resides in. When the soul is seperated from the body, a myriad of factors can affect the souls willingness or inability to return to the world. First and foremost, the soul might find themselves being rewarded for their bravery and honor within The Whitelands, and would rather remain there. For the souls who want to return to the material plane, there are pieces of the resurrection that could go wrong on the mortal end. If a character is dead, and a resurrection is attempted by a spell or spell effect with longer than a 1 action casting time, a Resurrection Challenge is initiated. Up to 3 members can offer to contribute to the ritual via a Contribution Skill Check. The DM asks them each to make a skill check based on their form of contribution, with the DC of the check adjusting to how helpful/impactful the DM feels the contribution would be. Depending on the difficulty and helpfulness of each check, the DC may decrease by 1-3, but on a failed save increases by 2. After contributions are completed, the caster rolls a spell check and adds their modifier. If the soul is willing, and the caster beats the DC, then the character is brought back to life. If they fail, the DM will roll on the fragile soul table.
