The Four & Sixty

The second attempted creation of Stewards of the Immaculate Machine, Humans are far weaker than the first, who had rebelled and caused the Great Schism. Incredibly inventive and pioneering, humans naturally lust for what is over the next hill. Their weaker nature makes them prone to corruptive influence from Nergal's Rot, which if untreated, leads to madness and far worse.

However, to combat the spread of such influence, the Immaculate Machine itself selects from among humanity the Four & Sixty, unlocking their potential for magic in the most powerful ways possible.

Appearance

The Four & Sixty appear as mundane people in their native cultures. Though rare, some have eyes that glow in the irises, most often honey-colored.

Culture

The culture of the Four & Sixty is largely a reflection of their native cultures. With magic-powered technology advanced beyond our modern understanding of capability, humanity has mastered control of the magical fields such that the Four & Sixty are nearly indistinguishable from their mundane counterparts in practice. So much so, that humanity, in this period, is in something of a golden age back home. This is what makes Achenar so fascinating and so worrying to humanity.

Typically, the Four & Sixty act something of the clean-up crew for magical and environmental disasters. They're considered first responders, and it is their duty, regardless of their personal choice, to go where their mundane counterparts cannot in order to contain and remediate contaminated areas of Nergal's Rot. As a result of this, the Four & Sixty are referred to in manners reflective of their cultures: viking, faris, ranger, Green Knights, bees. Some wear it as a badge of honor. Others wear it as a chip on their shoulder.

Human that the Immaculate Machine selects as the Four & Sixty stop aging entirely. No one knows precisely how old one can become, but none who live speak of coming from a prior Age.

Naming Conventions

The names of the Four & Sixty are as any other name for humans would be. Some times, however, wishing to forget their own pasts, the time before they were chosen by the Immaculate Machine, that adopt their dossier file names, which operate as something of a callsign for those in the circle of practioners within The Council of White.
