Anerith
Anerith is the capital city of The Uxorian Dynasty. Located at the top of a 1000 ft. waterfall, it is a shining example of the glory of The Uxorian Dynasty.
Government
Anerith is the seat of the government of The Uxorian Dynasty. Of course, this means that this is where the Empress Phillipa Uxor resides. With her, are her council, The Templars of the Dynasty, representatives from The First Circle of Mages, and The Administration of Arcane Control and Escrow.
Defences
Given its location, Anerith has natural defences from the cliff upon which is sits. Aside from that, the city is surrounded by large stone walls patrolled by the Crownsguard and the Ironguard. There are towers distributed along the wall, providing the guard with the elevation required to spot and attack incoming intruders.
The Crownsguard also patrols the skies using hippogriffs, with the officers riding griffons.
Finally, since the city is home to many of the The Templars of the Dynasty and members of the The First Circle of Mages, they provide defence against any magical assault via their series of towers near the palace.
Districts
The Catacombs
A sprawling network of tunnels, the Catacombs span the entirety of the city. They are entered mainly via the Undercity but can also be accessed from the Gullet and the Crown District. This is where many of the ancient citizens of Anerith were buried. They are now used much less and are rarely entered by the common folk. Tales of strange creatures, wandering undead, and other dangers keep most travellers away.The Citadel
The Citadel is where The Cloud Keep is located. It is the acropolis visible from all parts of the city, and has a view of the city and its surrounding areas.The Crown District
The area surrounding the Citadel, the Crown District sits directly beneath The Cloud Keep, and plays home to several important organizations to The Uxorian Dynasty including: The Templars of the Dynasty, The Administration of Arcane Control and Escrow, The Prismatic Knights, and The Uxorian Crownsguard.The Gullet
A network of tunnels and pathways that connect the surface areas of Anerith to the Undercity and the Catacombs. It is easy to get lost within the tunnels if unfamiliar with them. The Gullet also connects with the mines and to the Dwarven Kingdom that resides under the mountains.The Merchants' Quarter
A large market and bazaar that dominates much of the southern portion of Anerith. Here, one may find shops, trades, and everything in between.The Sacred Path
Along the main street that cuts through the heart of Anerith on its way to the Citadel lies the Sacred Path. It hosts a series of temples to various gods worshipped in The Uxorian Dynasty, primarily the temple of the Dawnfather and of the Platinum Dragon.The Scholars' Quarter
Home to the Archive of The Knowing Disciples, it sits nestled between the Merchants' Quarter and the Crown District. The University is also here given its proximity to the Archive.The Sprawl
The collection of farmland and shantytowns stretching for miles surrounding the walls of Anerith. Even though it is not within the city's walls, it is still considered part of Anerith.The Steppe
A wealthier neighbourhood in the northwestern part of the city, home to the wealthier population of the city. Here, there are large mansions and estates, along with clean streets...The Undercity
The name is apt. It is a city constructed under the main city and hosts a large population of trades-workers who maintain the city's infrastructure. Walking through the Undercity, travellers can see the network of pipes making up Anerith's water and sewage systems.Geography
Anerith is located on a plateau on the eastern edge of the Dragon Spine peaks. A river, running from a spring in the mountains runs through the centre of the city, providing it with fresh water, ending at a great waterfall that cascades down the cliff to a river 1000 ft. below. The plateau provides a large, safe place for farmers in the surrounding villages to tend to their crops and herds. Travellers can either ascend the hills to the south of the city, through the farms and villages, or ascend the Emperor's Steps up the cliff.
