Hmm... what I did before. It’s really not all that interesting. I grew up on Polaris, meaning I gained a connection with the metals of this world. I’m still not sure why this phenomenon only occurs on the island. Perhaps there are some old texts that could explain this. I know the Metallic Saint was the first to gain this connection, but I still don’t know how or why. Anyway, I digress. Where was I... Ah yes. Growing up in Polaris meant that I could control metal and other metallic objects. But that’s about where the interesting bits end. I worked in kitchens my whole life. Perfecting my ability to craft impeccable dishes.

My life was just that. Everyday I’d wake up, order the food, prepare the ingredients, make the food, go drink with my friends. The monotony eventually got to me when I turned thirty. I realized that I wasn’t really living life, ya know. So I picked up a book about the Rift. I don’t know why I decided that particular book, or subject, or day. But I grabbed the book and I couldn’t stop reading it. There were so many questions left unanswered. Who made it? What was its purpose? Was it an accident?

After this, I started reading every book I could get my hand on. Books about culture and politics and any other nonfictional research book I could find. This, though, led me to shirk my responsibilities as a chef and I was let go from my position. Living as a vagabond did give me more time to research, but not the money to live while doing it.

I’ve spent the last couple of years working the odd job here and there just to feed myself enough to stay alive. The entire time, continuing my research and quest for knowledge. Then, one day, you guys showed up. Travelers expressing interest in legends and lore and riches beyond the material kind. I saw my opportunity with you guys and took it.

So that’s it. That’s my story. I still believe it’s a rather unremarkable beginning to the stories we’ll build together.
