Garal's Military
Garal's military is known as one of the most brutal and effective on the continent, though Garal has shrunk since its nomadic armies conquered the majority of the continent centuries ago. Now, though the country is no longer wholly nomadic, the mobility and adaptability of its military remains formidable.
Largely composed of heavy and light cavalry, though smattered throughout with engineers able to build siege engines on command, warriors are divided into units of 10, 100, 1,000, and 10,000. Unlike other military traditions - including those of Zhenhai - warriors are given great freedoms in how they execute their orders, as long as they are filled and the demands of the greater picture are served. Leaders are chosen by the warriors in their units. Appointments are based on merit and loyalty rather than birth.
Complete loyalty to the khan is demanded of every warrior; if one soldier deserts his nine companions are executed. Each warrior travels with three to four horses and the means to survive in whatever climate they may be in; alcoholic mare's milk is a staple part of the military diet, to the point where churns for the drink are found outside many tents for people to stir as they go in and out. Families will often live by and travel with the soldiers when on a campaign or at certain areas around the border.
