Xhanei Village

As the sun beams down on your head, you may see the blurry image of a town in the distance. Though most would assume it to be a mirage, it is most definitely the home of the Xhans. They welcome you with open arms but may be critical of the poor condition you most likely carry yourself in from trekking so far out here. No worries, a good rest in their taverns, and you'll be alright.

Demographics

The land of Shifting Sands is where the tieflings reside, and they stand secluded from the rest of the world. There are a few dragonborn that reside here though they tend to live in small pockets under the sands. Scattered throughout the sands are bandits, most of which are kenku or the rare genasi.

Residents of Xhanei Village are typically glassworkers and take to this from a very young age.

Government

One elder tiefling watches over the entire village with an advisor by his side to collect taxes and continue enforcing laws when the elder is out of commission.

Defences

Xhanei Village is built inside a massive set of ruins that lends the remains of its walls as cover. Xhans do their best to not disturb this protection as it's proved effective against bandits that lurk in the sand.

Guilds and Factions

The Hidden Dunes is a monastery that circles around the belief of reflecting on the past. The people of this monastery believe that the future and the past sit on a pivot of some kind. The future holds weight that may sway balance wrongly, so a monk must take care of their past to ensure that balance is kept.

History

A long time ago, a massive sand snake known as Lao-Lahn terrorized the Shifting Sands. With its powerful flames that it spewed from its gullet, it set ablaze and melted the homes that the Xhans loved so dearly. With wings so wide it could block out the sun, it whipped up the sands and created horrifying dust devils. One lone Xhan known as Koa-Kana wielded a magic scimitar and challenged Lao-Lahn to a duel. It is said that this blade struck the snake in his heart and shattered his body, segmenting it. His bony remains became the ruins that surround Xhanei Village, and here, the Xhans reside in peace.

Architecture

Most of Xhanei Village lives in pockets in the sand where it's much cooler. Down there, you'll find homes, shops, and even entire taverns hidden in pockets in the snow. These pockets also serve as another line of defense against bandits as their entrances usually are made to blend in with surroundings.

Geography

Xhanei Village resides in Xhanei Sands (also known as the Shifting Sands), a desert that covers a fair portion of upper Central Prostesa. As it is, there's no near source of freshwater above ground, so Xhans are forced to use a mining system to find water underground, clean it, and then use it for whatever they need.
