Jorgund

Minamoto no Yoshimitsu

Mayor Jorgund Fletcher (a.k.a. JoJo)

"There are those that have endured worse than me. It is not right of me to weep and bellow over a mishap."
- Jorgund to Reynold Ruth
Jorgund Fletcher, descendant of the Minamoto clan, is the eldest brother of the Fletcher family and the current mayor of Meladane. With the assistance of The Third Party, Jorgund has gained a foothold in the government and begun the arduous process of bringing magic back to Meladane’s people. With the arrival of The Great Games, Jorgund aims to protect his people first and the rest of the world later.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Like the other Bushi, Jorgund seems to shake off illnesses without issue, rarely succumbing to disease. He is physically fit and maintains this shape as much as he can.

Special abilities

Jorgund's divinity, Pyromancy, gives him absolute control over fire, reflecting the emotions cultivated during his upbringing and the total freedom of his spirit, which manifests as a powerful flame. His powers strengthen during the summer and are bolstered by the energy the sun gives the earth.   As he is one of the Sacred Eight Bushi, Jorgund has developed a combat technique designed to both harness the power of his divinity and embody the passion of fire-born Louistans, Amaterasu's Reflection. With it, Jorgund gives his body and soul to the sun itself, taking the form and power of an elemental.

Apparel & Accessories

During festivals, Jorgund dresses in the traditional garb of the Sacred Eight Bushi, proudly wearing the lotus insignia on a brooch on his chest, snugly over his heart. This same brooch is present on all of his uniforms.

Personal history

Child of Pride

In the summer of 5589 A.A., Minamoto no Yoshimitsu was born to a noble family in the twelfth sector of Louistas. The Minamoto clan had dominated the fourth quarter of Louistas for several centuries prior to King Zoramok’s rise to power, and by the time Yoshimitsu was born, the Minamoto clan had long been forcibly removed from power by the Eclipse King. Yoshimitsu was born into a life of luxury and reveled in privileges that those beneath his position didn’t have. Yoshimitsu was polite, cunning, yet above all, arrogant. He treated those outside of his immediate family as though they were lesser than the grime under his boots, and words could not be said for the coarseness he held for the Dragon King. As he was coddled by his mother and enabled by his father, Yoshimitsu’s line of thinking was nurtured in his heart out of his family’s deep resentment for the dragons. It’s not a stretch to say he was used as an instrument of revenge.
As the Minamoto clan was known in the fourth quarter for their ferocious spirit and expert swordsmanship, Yoshimitsu’s father saw it only fitting to send him off for training under the First Bushi when Yoshimitsu came of age. Despite the lion’s conviction and passion for battle, despite Yoshimitsu’s amicable personality, the First Bushi sensed darkness in the young man's heart. The worst was realized five years later, after Yoshimitsu had been given the title of Third Bushi.

Gone to Battle

The fool he was, Yoshimitsu visited the eleventh sector under the pretense of speaking to King Zoramok. He had heard much of the King’s disgraceful etiquette and nature, and—perhaps to watch in wry amusement—wanted to formally meet with the King. Despite what he’d been told, Yoshimitsu was surprised to find King Zoramok a jovial and welcoming man. Good-natured, perhaps amoral, but an intelligent and well-intentioned king. For the first time, the Third Bushi had begun to doubt his judgement. King Zoramok had taken a shine to the young man, and Yoshimitsu felt his will weaken.
King Zoramok knew the Minamoto clan well and openly joked about their hubris—perhaps in an attempt to get a laugh out of the lion—but Yoshimitsu felt slighted and only hardened his resolve, soon discarding his hesitance. Yoshimitsu did not understand dishonor, drawing his blade upon an unsuspecting opponent. Once again, King Zoramok surprised the young man, simply laughing and urging Yoshimitsu to lower his blade. Resentment had given way to belligerance, and the Third Bushi struck at the king. Yoshimitsu’s gaze had become all but red, and the hall of the dragon king carried his roars throughout the palace.   It’s said that Yoshimitsu was knocked unconscious within the first swing.

Forgiveness

As punishment for Yoshimitsu’s act of treason, the Minamoto clan was branded as a clan of traitors, its nobility having been stripped from it in the most humiliating way possible. Yoshimitsu was sent home on the first ship available but was not welcomed inside. Supposedly, his father pointed south and told Yoshimitsu to walk in that direction until he reached the ocean. With naught a home of his own to return to, Yoshimitsu walked south and lived at the ocean shore for two years.
By chance, he had been discovered by King Zoramok himself. Fearing his potential death and succumbing to shame, Yoshimitsu hid his face and urged for the King to “be quick and merciful.” And yet again, the King surprised the Third Bushi. This time, it was with two sentences.   “I have fallen much farther than your family has. Do not blame yourself for something they failed to understand.”   That day, the King had earned more than Yoshimitsu’s respect: Yoshimitsu acknowledged the King as his own. In return, the King gave him a chance to start his life over elsewhere. He chose Prostesa as it was closer than Unis and seemed to be in dire need of help due to The Silence. It was then he named himself Jorgund Fletcher, a humble man whose arrogance had died long ago.

Morality & Philosophy

King Zoramok’s words to Jorgund set a standard for the lion to follow ever since he entered Prostesa. The weight of his mistakes in Louistas did not matter, and he could not afford to let himself be dragged down by that burden. No matter his misfortune, Jorgund insists it does not matter unless he makes it. Though this has given Jorgund willpower, it has resulted in him being reckless. When unbound by the freedom he has given himself, his emotions flare and cause his divinity to act without warning.
