Hucksberry

Bring your biggest shotgun...

Bordered to the east by Quina’s Stormy Ridge is a town that thrives in the dangers of the wilderness. One of several towns populated majorly by humans, Hucksberry manages to stand out due to the unforgiving environment and hard-to-handle residents. To Huckians, fighting is like breathing, and one could almost mistake these daily quarrels as a sign of an unstable society. Huckians would beg to differ; bickering’s something that every family goes through, and Huckians believe they’re all the better for it. Regardless of this, ability of Hucksberry to buckle down in the face of Echo raids has made it a force to be reckoned with.

Government

In Hucksberry, the strongest (or the ones with the biggest guns) run the town as mayors who represent the will of the people. Though there is no formal military in Hucksberry, most of the inhabitants are trained to fight Echoes and quickly mobilize the moment the town is threatened. Mayor Geralt Farrow is the current head of Hucksberry, making up for his short stature with a shotgun, a commanding voice, and a magnificent moustache. Rumors have circulated about his heritage, as he claims to be a halfling despite looking perfectly at home with the likes of the Feywild’s eladrin.

History

Long ago, the prospective Farrows and Dreadfuls got bored with the everyday lives they experienced on Aohiri. Though they bickered on many things, one ideal that overlapped was that children needed to be handled roughly if they were to grow strong and carry on the legacy of their ancestors. So, the two families did a mental leap and decided to embark on a pilgrimage into Quina’s badlands to found a settlement there. The environment was harsh and unforgiving, made only more terrible by the Echoes that threatened them. If the Echoes weren’t the problem that day, it was the sunlight beaming down on them as though it was trying to bake them in their own bodies.   The Farrows tried for about a month after founding Hucksberry, but they soon found their patience tried. The constant stress they were experiencing and the demanding environment wasn’t healthy for them. Tensions were always high, and it was only a matter of time before one of the elderly developed a trigger finger. The Dreadfuls, however, were hardy and stubborn, believing that backing out of this self-imposed challenge was a sign of weakness. Upon hearing the Farrows’ surrender, the head of the family, called “Dead-Eye Dillon” by modern folk, challenged Edward Farrow to a shootout. It’s said that Edward drew his gun so quick that the gust it created killed Dillon before the bullet left the barrel. From there, it was a blood fued that trapped the first Huckians in Hucksberry. Nobody has disturbed them since.

The Magnificent Seven   The council sitting underneath Mayor Farrow is known as the Magnificent Seven, a group recognized for their professional and awe-inspiring gunmanship. Their title is relatively unknown outside of Quina, but natives respect their authority and dread facing them in a shootout. Each member has their own distinct style and preferred gun, and they’re not hesitant to train them on each other. Though nobody has gotten injured, Huckians believe that the only way the Magnificent Seven would go out is by their own guns.
