The Summer Court (London)

The first of the seasonal courts to arrive in London's present Freehold, legend holds that the Summer Court's bargain was struck by Blind Joe, youngest of the keeper Mother-May-I's five "children," after he won a staring contest with the sun. Changelings who comment on how far-fetched, or even comedic, the tale is tend to be quickly reminded that the Hedge holds far stranger things.

The Court of Wrath serve as something akin to a military arm or policing unit for the Changeling of London, constantly testing one another so that they might be better prepared for the day they take the fight to the Others.

Structure

Though the Summer Court operates with the strict hierarchy of a military unit, it is far more meritocratic than even the most progressive of modern armies. Indeed, all it takes to rise in the ranks of the Summer Court is to prove that you're better fit for a given position than whoever currently holds it.

Such a system could, in theory, lead to cut-throat politicking, of course; Under weaker leaders, it has in the past. Thankfully, such leaders rarely lasts long as while, when succession rears its ugly head, the Summer Monarch is decided by a tournament, the position can be challenged at nearly any time.

Public Agenda

Serving as the 'law enforcement' arm of the Freehold, the Summer Court largely seeks to use its influence to strike out against potential threats to London's changelings. When in season, it is not uncommon for the court to lead hunts in the Hedge or, more rarely, in ironside London, eliminating dangers of all kinds.

Wrath can represent healthy competition as easily as it can anger, as well, and so Summer also puts its best foot forward in encouraging its own members and other courts to improve themselves for the sake of victory. There are the occasional unflattering parallels to an American Fraternity or a gang of "gym bros."

Celebrations

The Midsummer Tournament

Every year on June 24th, The Court of Wrath holds a grand tournament to commemorate their founding and reaffirm their pacts with Summer.

The Wild Hunt

A great scouring of the Hedge which the Summer Court takes part in every year, beginning on August 1st.

Assets

Every member of the Iron Spear can defeat a foe in some arena or other, though not every member may go to battle in a physical sense. Still, the majority of the Summer Court are powerfully built and have at least some training or skill in combat.

Moreover, The Iron Spear is known to at least a few of London's detectives and constables. It acts and operates like a gang in its own right, after all. The Summer Court largely makes their money through protection rackets and selling drugs, though they are careful to avoid anything too immoral lest they fall into the trap of being too alike to the Gentry. They have to fund their efforts somehow and iron doesn't come cheap.
