Mercatrix

The Mercatrix is one of the Three Job Streams in Professional Guilds. It concentrates particularly on mercantile practices, including crafting and assessing physical goods, trade routes, and item production. Like the other job streams, it has several ranks which are available to ascend to.

What’s involved in this job?

  • Logistics of mining/production (infrastructure)
  • Architecture of buildings, insulation, and wiring (urban planning)
  • Refinement and crafting of goods (smith/crafter)
  • Diplomacy and Economic matters, including assessing/inspecting values (high merchants)
  • Setting trends and advances in technologies (oracles/forecasters)

What qualifications and skills are needed?

  • Each rank requires specific amounts of field experience at different leadership levels
  • Everything after Novice rank requires an initiation into a guild
  • There are particular certifications for skills depending on the guild you are initiated into
  • Many certifications are considered "hard skills" such as engineering, chemistry, mathematics
  • Other certifications are "soft skils" such as diplomacy, culture relations, anthropology/religious studies

What are the perks?

  • The higher you go in rank, the better you become and the more power you exercise
  • Crafting and physical goods never go out of style, and mastering an element in its crafting allows innovation during times of deficit, thus every good leader needs a good Mercatrix as advisor
  • Mercatrix are usually very open minded and well-traveled owing to their profession, a great fit for peaceful extroverts

And finally, what’s the risk?

  • Constantly handling raw elements can cause health issues, such as Heavy Metal
  • There are a lot of forbidden ways to use the elements and being able to disguise and physically manipulate can easily produce extremely destructive melanges, it is very easy for things to go wrong if you are too curious
  • Often work in dangerous or remote places, or in chaotic crowded urban areas, it is not a peaceful job even at higher ranks where things are more executive
