Abellion Orchards
Abellion Orchards Valley is a valley in the Gloynbyw Coalfields region, bordered by the nearby mining valleys owmed by 1) a Sindainox Heno with a bought title but a lot of money, and 2) A failed utopian state that has since become a culture of its own.
What are your non-earth-like geographical features in your setting?
- The source of the coal-mill river (among other rivers) is at the top of Penaval Hill, and the closer you get to it, the more Magberries grow because whatever is making the river black (charcoal?) is cleansing poison from the mountain, so while mining releases toxic gasses and such, the plants which grow there seem to be clean
- There was a lot of mining activity here at one point, and a lot of landslides have led to entire towns being buried, sometimes discovered
What’s the general “lay of the land” of your active worldbuilding area?
- It's a hilly river valley with several small villages connected by a train (used for shipping and transport)
- The valley ends where the Abellion river merges with Thrice-scorned River tributaries
- Penaval is at the head of the valley and there are many orchards around the area
- Water reservoir is found, though it is low-lying and a frequent run-off for chemicals
- There are several small villages that don't populate more than 2000 people each, there's probably around 15-20k population total here
And what is the climate or environment like, in your active worldbuilding area?
- Valley climate, frequent and sudden weather changes with decent precipitation
- Hot summers and cold winters
- Seasons feel shorter due to frequent changes and shifts in weather
- This isn't an extreme weather system but does take a lot of work to manage
- Soil is very good particularly around the river due to its charcoal content
- Anthrax and other bacteria is common elsewhere
Next, What is the ecosystem & habitat like in your active worldbuilding area?
- Though the original inhabitants are the Cicada people (as well as other true bugs) the wasps have been here for awhile
- Maydens, Glendatis, and Fitterfoxes are all common here, as are their descendants
- A lot of gall orchards here make for a lot of the food output, coasts have seaweed, there are strange lakes with oxygen pockets where giant plankton emerge
- There are creatures called "Gwynwen" "White ladies", who are the shells of the Cicada people who with electricity, can be given life
Finally, what natural resources are found in your active worldbuilding area?
- The mountains contain the following:
- Heavy Metals - Tin, Arsenic, Copper, Lead
- Citron - Gall orchards, magberries, untainted plants
- Flint - Flint, some quartz
- Brimstone - Sulphur, Evaporite
- Brine - Salt, Evaporite
- Healing water that is effective against heavy metal poisoning
- Strange and arcane organic remains
