Frog

Frogs are one of the 3 sapient, sentient, antropomorphic main-species in Amphibia

Biology

Biologically, frogs are not unlike their counterparts on Earth. They
  • are cold-blooded
  • are covered by mucus-covered, knobby skin
  • are equipped with a rapidly extendable tongue
  • have a preference for insects
  • come in many different colors
  Unique to them however is
  • their ability to grow hair
  • that they have, like humans, two arms and legs, and can stand and walk upright

Society

The majority of all frogs in Amphibia serve as farmers, of various kinds. They form the largest part of the overall population, but are also the most politically powerless.

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

As with their counterparts on Earth, frogs begin their life cycle as pollywogs. The arms are among the first growing extremities. After 4 to 6 years, legs grow from the previously small-rounded body. In the months that follow, the frog experiences a growth spurt. A torso develops and hair growth is stimulated. At the age of 10, a frog is considered fully grown, but not yet adult.

Ecology and Habitats

As cold-blooded animals, frogs prefer a warm, humid, marshy climate. If it is too hot, they tend to dry out. The too low temperatures freeze them completely.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Although frogs are considered the lowest and most basic sentient species in Amphibia in the form of farmers, some of them have achieved an elevated status as business magnates with great influence in this world.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

As farmers, most frogs produce food of all kinds. Be it through argiculture or livestock. This food or other natural products are traded among themselves, but also exported to the rest of Amphibia. In addition to this, all frogs are required to pay taxes, which are regularly collected from the toads. Corruption and unfair treatment are not uncommon.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The majority of all frogs are located in Frog Valley, in southern Amphibia. A known exception is Ribbitvale, located in the east of the continent, outside of Frog Valley.

Average Intelligence

The intelligence of frogs is pretty average compared to all of Amphibia. Schooling is generally considered important, but often no such structures exist in the villages. Rarely do particularly intelligent frogs receive scholarships to study at Newtopia University. Usually they face species-based discrimination by the Newts.

Civilization and Culture

Relationship Ideals

Relationships are rarely subject to any restrictions. Same-sex or interspecies relationships are generally not frowned upon. In general, all individuals are free to choose their partners. Nevertheless, forced marriages or marriages caused by a business deal are not uncommon. Usually, however, the wishes of the partners are respected.

Average Technological Level

Frogs do not possess technology. Their level of development corresponds to that of humans in the early Middle Ages. There is no electricity, but there is cold running water and functioning toilets. The processing of wood and iron is well-known, and scattered blacksmiths, toolmakers, or woodworkers produce all the desired items needed for life.

Common Taboos

The word 'salamander' is generally considered a gross insult among all species on the continent.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The closest connection is to Toads, who have the task of maintaining order, collecting taxes, and enforcing laws. Usually there is only rare contact with Newts, since they rarely leave the capital Newtopia.

Compared to toads and newts, frogs represent the physically smallest and weakest species. Unlike the other two, frogs are extremely fast and agile, especially when young.
