The Blackout

The Blackout was an event where, for unknown reasons, the electricity went out in the entire city. Roughly ten years ago, all electricity was shut off citywide at midnight, and twenty-four hours later, returned. In those twenty-four hours, Grimm City descended into utter chaos.
Promptly after the power shut down, the citizens tried to find alternate sources of light. Many people own lighters in Grimm City, so fire was the easiest way to light up the night. Unfortunately, this also meant that several locations were set ablaze, both due to accidents caused while attempting to use fire as a light source, and the citizens believing that the Blackout was indicative of some kind of societal collapse. Many anarchist groups tried to take advantage of the lack of electricity by causing destruction. Many citizens watched from the rooftops during the Blackout, observing the multicolored fires that sprang to life in the unnaturally rainless night. A truly beautiful spectacle that left the city in shambles.
Miraculously, twenty-four hours after the Blackout started, the city lit up again and electricity returned. The everyday citizens of Grimm City still do not know what had caused the Blackout, and some groups believe that the government doesn't know either. There are rumors of anti-corporate groups trying to take control by shutting down the city's power, anarchists trying to send the city into a panic, or possibly the government trying to make the citizens afraid and vulnerable. Over the years Grimm City has been restored, but few have forgotten what happened. Today, there are still scars left by what happened that day, and the hallow husks of burned buildings still loom on the street corners. They serve as a reminder of the fires that lit up the city during what was literally its darkest moment.
