Welcome to A Dark Future

A Dark Future Introduction

First, welcome to my world. It may be a bit small at first, but I have big plans. Though anyone who has studied military matters knows no plan survives first contact. The world meta outlines my goals and inspirations for this world. I'm sure that will change from time to time but if you really want to know why I'm doing this or what has inspired me head on over and check it out.

Over the years I have read quite a bit of science fiction. From the classics of Isaac Asimov to newer works by Lindsay Buroker and Jonathan Moeller I have read and enjoyed hundreds of books. TV shows like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica as well as the Star Trek and Star Wars movies have all been captured my imagination.

I suppose a word or two about "realism" is in order. First and foremost this is a work of science fiction. Science fiction in media is all over the place. Hard science fiction attempts to keep things grounded in real science while other writers are a bit more loose with the laws of science. For my world I'll attempt to keep things more on the hard science fiction side, but I am not a scientist nor engineer so I retain the hand wave right to just make stuff up without explanation.

I've looked at and tried several different science fiction based RPG systems, but now really jumped out as the one. Then I discovered Stars Without Number by Kevin Crawford.
Stars Without Number is a retro science fiction role playing game influenced by the Old School Renaissance and partially inspired by the great fantasy role-playing game editions written by Tom Moldvay and Frank Mentzer.

Participating in A Dark Future

At least for now I'm not really looking for players in my world. I do have a bit of world building to do, but if you are interested in being a player please reach out. We'll discuss and go from there. If you have thoughts or feedback on the world in general I would love to hear them. All I ask is be polite. Just because you've provided feedback does not mean I'm going to incorporate it and I may not even say why. That's certainly my prerogative within my world.

Those wishing to participate in A Dark Future will review the article on Inclusive Gaming. This article can be reached by clicking on th Inclusive RPG logo located on every page.

So jump right in and explore. If you like what you see please let me know. If you have any questions please let me know. I have a fairly long to do list but will make some time to answer questions. Will certainly help me think through different parts of my world.

Navigating A Dark Future

Where to begin when exploring a new world is often a big question for explorers. To help navigate around I have added bread crumbs to the top of every article, which will show you exactly where you are in the world. You can use these to jump back a level or more. At the top right of every article is the world codex, which is just fancy talk for table of contents. This will also get you around.

The Atlas will be were information concerning the various locations will be.

The NEXUS is the encyclopedia for the world. Other than locations most other information will be here.

Under the Player Handbook will be everything a player would need to know for roll playing. So, things like classes, skills, and equipment will be here.

As I add new information I might move things around so if you can't find something that you thought you knew where it was it probably has been moved for some reason. I'll do my best to limit this, but will also post a note about it.

Some information is the work of Kevin Crawford who appears to have given permission for some of it to be used in this blog post Writing for Sine Nomine games. In no way will I be monitizing any of this. It's just for fun. Through out I will make note of who holds the copyright if it is not me with a note on the page.
