Vabensitth (vah-ben-sit-th)

The Dead Language of the Lost Gods

Vabensitth (pronounced "vah-BEN-sit-th") is a dead language believed to have belonged to the Deities or equivalent entities that oversaw the creation of, and then abandoned, Moeda'arde. The name "Vabensitth" is actually Old A'arden in origin, from "va bensitth" meaning "of deities" (va being "of", bensit being "deity", and the th suffix making the preceding word plural).

As the entities that created the language had long left the Cosmology by the time the True A'arden Deities discovered the remaining texts, they have no way to translate the writings left behind and thus no way to begin to approximate how the language was spoken. It is believed to be a cultural language unrelated to the Celestial tongue in the same manner as Sylvan (Ghàidhlig) and Border-Sylvan (Gaeilge) of the Fey, Cymraeg of the Elves, and Gjuha-Dragoit of the Dragonkin and their Deities.

It is believed that the Vabensitth texts left behind may offer some form of explanation as to why Moeda'arde was abandoned by the Deities, and why there was an Antimagic Curtain erected around the Material Plane of the Cosmology in the first place.

Writing System

Vabensitth only exists in written form, as a series of glyphs seen "carved" into or onto various surfaces within the more ancient parts of the Planes of Empyrean. These glyphs often glow with Divine energy, though some appear to be defunct or dormant, suggesting that the written language may double as a form of magical expression or "instruction". Each glyph is made up of a collection of lines and dots arranged in patterns, though it is uncertain as to whether the patterns depict letters, words, or concepts.

Nobody is sure of the construction of the language, and not even the True A'arden Gods have managed to translate it, though many believe that Aaryav has the most potential to succeed in this endeavour.

Geographical Distribution

The dead language is typically only seen in the most ancient of places within the Planes of Empyrean, though can also be seen in some of the deepest parts of the Chthonic Below, suggesting that it was once inhabited by dark deities or entities associated with them.
