The Bonemire

The Bonemire, as it became known, was first documented in A'arde in Firewane of Y6A 1478. The Blue Wolf Mercenary Group, tasked with finding out how and why the water supply of Fuldair had been contaminated, discovered the creature in the southern reservoir and were forced to engage in combat. Nobody is certain of where it came from, but it is clear that this is not a native of A'arde's Plane, nor of any other, in the cosmology. It is possible that the creature travelled from another cosmology alongside the many cosmological "visitors" (often referred to as "Interlopers") that were unceremoniously dropped into A'arde on the Night of the Violet Stars. It is currently unknown if the Bonemire discovered in Fuldair was the only one to arrive within A'arde.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Bonemire was described as having a canid-like spine, shoulders, forearms and a head resembling a coyote, though its fingers were longer, the "dew claw" more like a thumb, and the claws themselves were eight inches in length. From head to end of the spine, the creature measured fourteen feet in length with the head making up almost five feet of that length.

Surrounding its body was a clear, viscous ooze that it could manipulate at will into a variety of shapes. While the ooze itself was amorphous, the Bonemire was restricted in its ability to squeeze into spaces by the size of its bones. The Bonemire is able to climb walls and ceilings without hindrance due to the sticky nature of the ooze. The bones of the creature were devoid of flesh, muscle or sinew, apparently held together by the ooze surrounding it, though inside of its skull glowed with sickly green light that seemingly had no origin.

Ecology and Habitats

Little is known of the ecological facts of the Bonemire, as only one has ever been found. It is known that the Bonemire consumed meat, as many corpses were found with only the skeletons remaining. It is believed that the Bonemire's ooze was capable of destroying most things with its acidic properties, however it did not have the same effect on bone.

A Druid's report of a conversation with a sewer rat suggested that the Bonemire had obliterated many colonies of rats within the sewers in lieu of larger food supplies.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While it is known that the Bonemire consumed meat, its exact requirements in terms of food supply are unknown. It is believed that the Bonemire was at least partially an ambush hunter, waiting for its prey to stumble upon it before grappling, overwhelming, and consuming them.

Behaviour

The ooze of the Bonemire was highly acidic, and it was capable of almost completely disguising itself while within water, turning almost invisible except for the bones. The Bonemire would lay very still, disguising itself as a simple corpse, before showing its true self and attacking. Additionally, it was capable of laying in wait on ceilings before dropping down onto unsuspecting foes.

The Bonemire tended to fight with tooth, claw and pseudopod, often grappling its foes or trying to drag them into the water with it. It would attempt to drown its foes, or burn them with its acidic body in order to weaken their defenses. Additionally, it was resistant to magic and was able to repel a certain amount of any cold damage it was inflicted with. It's most dangerous weapon, however, was an acidic lance which it spat from its mouth, that could travel up to ninety feet in a straight line.

Clever and patient, it was capable of stalking its foes before attacking when it was in an advantageous position, and it knew when to retreat from combat.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Only one known specimen is known to exist within A'arde; research into the creature is still underway. The BWMG in Fuldair has the original and only known specimen stored within their care. The specimen was killed and retrieved from the underground reservoirs of the city's water supply by a team of Elites prior to the People's Revolt of Fuldair, when the Silver Hand failed to provide adequate investigations into the matter of the contaminated water supplies.

Average Intelligence

The Bonemire was not considered Sapient, but was classified as "Intelligent" due to its ability to understand at least three languages: Abyssal, Deep Speech, and Infernal. Additionally, it had a Telepathic range of 120 ft, which seemed capable of delivering strange messages and Dissonant Whispers in any Language, though it could not receive telepathic replies. It was known to be a clever ambush predator and therefore understood concepts of camouflage and tactical thinking.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Bonemire was believed to have Darkvision out to a range of 120ft. Additionally, magical Darkness did not impede the creature's vision, suggesting that it was immune. The Bonemire was also believed to be resistant to magical effects as a whole, and was resistant to physical attacks that were non-silvered and non-magical. It was capable of moving unimpeded on walls and ceilings, and when within water its ooze was rendered invisible. Alongside these resistances, the Bonemire was immune to damage caused by poison and acid, and could not be rendered poisoned, deafened, or charmed. The Bonemire was repellant to cold, able to reflect damage done to it via cold damage back at its opponents, and was able to create an Acidic Lance within its mouth, similar to that of a Dragon's Breath attack.

The Bonemire seemed to be able to communicate through a form of Aberrant telepathy, and could somehow speak in a small number of languages. Alongside this, it was able to cast a form of Dissonant Whispers at will, as well as part of a "Death Scream".
