Arachnii

The Fallen of Aranidia

Fey Tales left from before the Fey Retreat tell that the Arachnii are all that remains after Corruption decimated the home plane of the sentient spider and scorpion creatures, the Aranea and the Ouropugion. The brave and honourable Ouropugion were wiped out by the Corruption as they attempted to defend their home, while the more peaceful and gentle Aranea instead chose to run and hide. However, the broken bodies of the Ouropugion were used against the Aranea, puppets to the Corruption, drawing them out in an attempt to help save their friends. Corruption captured those Aranea and transformed them, merged them with the broken carcasses of their Ouropugion friends and twisted their minds into destructive killing machines before releasing them on the Multiversal Cosmology as part of its arsenal against life itself.

Description

Fey Tales say that the Arachnii resemble monstrous giant spiders crossed with giant scorpions, with each Arachnii looking a little different from all others. These differences can manifest in the size and shape of their appendages and bodies or in their colouration, but overall all Arachnii will have eight legs, multiple eyes, a venomous tail and venomous fangs. Most Arachnii possess sword-like appendages on their front legs and almost all are venomous to some extent. Arachnii bodies generally present as the size of a large horse, though some have been described as "the size of a house".

Behaviour and Abilities

The most notable feature of anything Corrupted is that it has an unwavering hatred for anything that it considers "life". Its single-minded desire to destroy all living matter manifests within the Arachnii as unspeakable levels of malevolence and violence to any and all living creatures.   The stories surrounding Arachnii attacks are varied, suggesting that the Arachnii are adaptable in combat and capable of complex strategisation. However, as the Arachnii have rarely been observed within the A'arden Material Plane, it is difficult for scholars to verify.   Collections of Fey stories about the Arachnii or Arachnii-like creatures agree that they have both necrotic and venom-based abilities, as well as webs created from pure shadow. They have the ability to teleport while in dim light or darkness, and are capable of spreading Corruption through the Corrupt organisms within themselves.

Ecology

The Tales state that the Arachnii originate from the Multiversal Plane of Aranidia, however that Plane no longer exists except as a haven for Corruption. Unfortunately, the Tales tell little of any other ecological facts of Arachnii.

Taming, Harvesting and Taxidermy

The control of Corruption and Corrupted beings is impossible without the instigator succumbing to Corruption themselves. Corruption also transforms everything it touches, including containers. For this reason, anything found to be tainted with Corruption is purged or purified upon discovery.   Due to their overlong exposure, Arachnii are too Corrupted to be purified, and thus must be purged upon discovery. There are no known ways to harvest or tame them.

Locations of Known Specimens

No known specimens exist for study or observation within the Material Plane.
