New York Public Library
The New York Public Library is a massive and important institution in New York City. The library is crucial in giving access to knowledge and services that all the citizens of the city can use for free. Its funding is ensured with city funds and from large donations.
The library has a massive collection of books and archival material that relate to the supernatural. This collection is used by many hunters and supernaturals to futher they know-how or their skills. The librarians responsible for this collection are usually themselves of a supernatural ancestry. Their leader is an ancient vampire who has made it his mission to collect as much sources on the supernatural as possible.
The collection rivals all collections on supernatural topics around the world. Even the library of the University of Mystical Arts & History does not have as many books as the NY Public Library.
This is why mystics, students of the supernatural and others often come to New York to persue the books, manuscripts and more found in their collection. The library has started to digitize all of this material in a great effort to make it more accessible. However, efforts are slow as the funds are small and the work is great. Each page requires several minutes of work to be of high enough quality to be useful. Furthermore some supernatural or magical tomes might not be digitizable at all due to their nature.
In an effort to speed up this process the collection stewarts have approached Google to try and get them to digitize the younger parts of the collection. These books are usually printed and not hand written and can be more easily made accessible with OCR. The quality of the books digitized would mostly be terrible, but at least it would make some books accessible.
Some say this is the wrong approach as some of these books may contain dangerous knowledge that could be abused when it comes into the wrong hands. However, the librarians are confident that they have catalogued the books in a manner that ensures that only books without dangerous content can be indentified and handed off to Google for processing.
