Clingfungus soup

Clingfungus soup is a staple food for any dwarven civilisation living underground.   (it is a little joke too because I personally háte soup. It is the most stupid form of food. Why would I take perfectly good food, and make it soaking wet before eating? iIt's just so ridiculous, but I suppose if you live underground, and have limited food and water available, combining the two into one hydrating and nutritious meal would make some sense)

History

As the dwarves were forced to live underground, they had to look for food that would still grow even without sunlight. The underground lava lakes are a natural source of light and energy, and some plants, like the clingfungus, have adapted to take energy from these lavalakes and turn that into sugars and fibers to grow from. Clingfungus is the most common and nutritious of these underground foods, followed by hanging vines, swirling tendrils and gnup .. .. .

Execution

First step is obviously to gather some cling fungus. This fungus is a redish fungus that grows on the rocks overhanging lava lakes. It sometimes even grows straight down, clinging to the rocks with short barbed wires stretching out from the fruit itself. Since it grows above lava it is exceptionally difficult to cook. The trick is to remove the hard outer layer, which is like a fire shield for the fungus. Once this removed the rest of the fungus is best prepared by simmering it in an obsidian lava simmer pot over around 6 days. This is enough to slowly but thoroughly break down the fibers without burning the fungus.   Once adequately simmered the fungus can be put in a bowl of boiling water, along with some salt-rock, some vines and preferably some root nuts. If root nuts are not available in the area insect meat is a good replacement.
