Starmetal
A rare metal from the stars with a divine affinity for magic
Properties
Material Characteristics
Raw Starmetal comes from rocks from the sky. These rocks fall at such a speed that they leave a crater around their landing point. These "Fallingstars" contain / are made of raw Starmetal. Starmetal can be found in the ground or underwater but it is believed that these units of Starmetal once fell from the sky as well. Starmetal is blue in color with its shade being determind by its solidity, the darker the ore the harder it is. Once Starmetal is refined it can be pounded to any solidity softer / shade lighter than the original. Starmetal ore has a more matte look / feel to it where as refined Starmetal can be almost reflective enough to be used as a mirror.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Starmetal, when touched, is inexplicably cold and gives off a subtle, constant vibration. Starmetal is safe to handle but is toxic to ingest. Starmetal has a "natural" affinity for magic and easily becoming magically infused.
Geology & Geography
Raw Starmetal can be found in meteorites, aka "Fallingstars," that have landed on Ümbria. These meteorites have landed throughout Ümbria.
Origin & Source
Raw Starmetal can only be found in meteorites, aka "Fallingstars," that have made it through the Ümbria's atmosphere and landed on the planet.
History & Usage
History
Starmetal, and the meteorites they come from, has been seen by many people and cultures as sign from the gods, for good and ill. The Fallingstars have been interpreted as predicting good harvests, favor in battle, a coming death, blessing a marriage, etc. Finding Starmetal or being given some as a gift is seen as good luck and is an almost univerally prized gift. Throughout history Starmetal have been viewed as tokens of friendship whether raw or incorporated into jewelry or an adorning piece of a larger gift. More recently the militarized possibilities have been realized turning refined Starmetal into high-grade weaponry and armor as well as magically infused items (due to its affinity for magic). The items/weapons given by the gods/goddesses before and during The gods War were "made" using Starmetal in some form.

Hazards
If ingested Starmetal is highly toxic and can kill a man in less than a day.
