Divine Pillar Shield

Properties

Material Characteristics

Spherical in shape, a dozen translucent concentric layers all radiating a bright divine light.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Pure divine radiant energy, this material is literally the essence of gods distilled into a physical barrier. Using it as a fuel source is like using Lathander's robe as kindling for a campfire. Harder than adamantine, no physical object or force can penetrate the layers.

Geology & Geography

Divine Pillars can be found in four unique locations throughout Reedan though currently only one is being utilized as a source of energy.

Origin & Source

The protective shields placed around the dimensional anchors created with the casting of the Divine Prison spell.

Life & Expiration

At the current rate of siphoning off energy the shields around the anchor should take centuries to deteriorate in any noticeable fashion.

History & Usage

History

The pillar was originally created at the time of the casting of the Divine Prison spell used to imprison the Demon Queen, it is one of four dimensional anchors created to tether the prison to the material plane and fix it in place.

Discovery

After the founding of the empire, and the decree for Unification through a Unified Faith, the Temple of the Impassioned Heart sat unoccupied for a long time. No one could make use of the property due to the unique architectural designs and lava proximity. That is until one day a routine survey team discovered a secret passage leading deep under the city limits. It led to a tunnel that ran out under the lava lake itself to a chamber in which sat a large lead sphere. The council ordered the sphere opened and what they found inside was the Pillar of Fire.    It took a lot of experimentation, and trial and error to eventually discover its potential as a harvestable energy source so it's only been functioning as such for a short period of time relative to its existence.

Everyday use

The pillar sits at the heart of EEEP, the power plant in lower UMLOT, the energy it produces powers a wide range of devices with new ones being developed all the time. The primary common use though is lighting. No more torches, oil lamps and other fire hazards to worry about

Cultural Significance and Usage

While the faith is defunct, and the gods lost to time, the cultural significance of a divine pillar cannot be overstated. It is literally a cornerstone on which the entire faith was built in their absence.

Industrial Use

With the correct mechanical systems in place, similar in design to an alternator it is possible to siphon energy off the divine pillar inducing electrical current.

Hazards

Physical contact with the Pillar is incredibly dangerous, it's designed as a protective shield of pure energy palming it bare handing is not only going to kill you but it's going to hurt the whole time you're dying.

Environmental Impact

Depleting the Divine Pillar of Fire to a significant degree, would have a variety of negative environmental impacts.

Reusability & Recycling

Without significant intervention, the pillar is a non-renewable resource.
