The following induction pack is undergoing updates. You may begin reading through the induction pack now and acquainting yourself with the induction protocols for your arrival at Tau Cerberi. We will provide you with a finalised version of the induction pack once the updates have been completed.

Thank you for attending your induction with the TN Immigration Office.

In the distant future, Humanity has mastered the advanced art of intergalactic travel. They have made their home in the Tau Cerberi system - a star system that lies within the Osiron galaxy sector.

This new home appears to be a blissful paradise. The Humans - or Terrans, as they are now referred to by their fellow spacefaring species - of Earth look eagerly to the stars to escape their less than stellar lives, whilst those who have already escaped across the universe are thriving.

Though the years have not been without their trials and tribulations.

Their newfound neighbours - the prideful Ulmaatis, the charming Zarcants, the stoic Dreggans, and the people pleasing L’Oris - make life in Osiron difficult. Navigating the strains of each relationship, whilst managing the peoples own opinions, is a tall order even for the strongest of wills.

Then, there are the regions uncharted. Dead space whereby no one has travelled - or no one dares travel - that the Terrans are determined to conquer. No matter how many lives they risk.

Osiron’s Spacefarers

Terrans

Formerly designated ‘Humans’, the Terrans have now completely adopted the term used by the other spacefaring species that occupy Osiron. They were the first non-native species to make the jump to the Osiron galaxy sector, where they initially settled in the Tau Cerberi system on the planet Chatau’s Landing. They have since expanded, branching out across the Cerberi Galaxy and creating more settlements for their people to live and work on.

Ulmaatis

The first of the spacefaring species to succeed with intergalactic space travel. They are natives of Osiron, having originally hailed from the Gremoris system in the Cerberi galaxy.

Being the first meant that they had plenty of time to try and perfect intergalactic travel, as well as settle their people in a number of different systems, prior to any other spacefaring species catching up. For every relay station that the Ulmaatis have helped to engineer, they have learnt from each and vastly improved upon their original design.

Zarcants

As of 6965 UGY, the Zarcants are the most recent spacefaring species to make their home in the Osiron galaxy sector. Originally from the Loximar galaxy from a far off region of space, they settled into their new homes quickly. Their capacity to adapt to all manner of things, from extreme environments to simple social situations with other species, is an admirable trait.

Dreggans

The second spacefaring species to succeed with intergalactic space travel and another native species of Osiron. They are masters of close quarter combat and have dedicated a whole month of celebrations to this particular trade. If ever you get the chance, should your interests lie with close quarter combat, make sure you attend the Iyrgard Festival.

L’Oris

Natives of the Cancia Prime galaxy in Osiron, the L’Oris were the fourth spacefaring species to travel across the stars. Quieter than the others, the L’Oris tend to keep to themselves. It makes them seem rather untrustworthy at first glance, but fret not - they are some of the most reliable people in Osiron and definitely someone you want around. Especially if you want to keep a secret.

God. Listen to those prats ramble on. Nothing like a good old fashioned talking to from your friendly, neighbourhood IO, eh?

"Do this. Do that. Don't do this. Don't do that." I bet those idiots haven't had a day of fun in their lives.

Look, newcomer. If you really want to get out there and see the galaxy, don't listen to a bunch of suits hellbent on 'playing nice' with those stuck up alien feds. Meet me at ██████████████████████████████. The boys and I will show you the ropes.

Themes

A Growing Conflict

Tensions between the Terrans and Ulmaatis are at an all time high. Steadily, they grow and grow, with no end in sight.

The Osiryx Federation and Terra Novus have been trying - and failing - to extend their arms in friendship, to repair the bridges that the Ulmaatis and Terrans had barely begun to build all those years ago, when Terrans first arrived in Osiron. Unfortunately, their efforts are being thwarted by extremists on both sides. Those eager to keep the tensions rising, to see one civilisation fall.

“Listen here, you ungrateful little siid-roach. You’re gonna take the package to Gremoris and drop it off with Lucky, or I’m gonna shoot you as you’re walking away and find another lowlife to do the job for me. I don’t care if you’re pissin’ you’re pants at the idea the Feds might catch you. Just get the damned job done. Clear?”

“... yes sir…”

Defining Your Own Legacy

There is a lot of pressure on all of the spacefaring species to create a long lasting legacy. Whether this is something the individual themselves strives to do is another question.

For many, particularly the Zarcants and Terrans who are from a whole other sector of the universe, pressures come from both their elders and their ancestors. The question becomes a matter of whether they will follow the path set out before them by others, thereby creating a legacy that others want for them. Or will they strike out on their own and forge their own path for the future?

“It’s funny… my parents always wanted me to end up in one of two places: on the council, or ‘fighting the good fight’ with the Fleet. Guess they got what they wanted in the end.”

“You can still make this yours. Just because you’re in the Fleet doesn’t mean you have to fight. There’s so many other things you could do, good things, if you just look for them.”

“Like what, dreamer?”

“I don’t know. Maybe start out with that fancy biology degree and see if the medics will take you?”

A Stranger in a New Land

Adapting to a new life can be difficult. That transitional phase - the uncertainty, the excitement - is common amongst those leaving their origin planet for the first time. Finding a place to settle in can be a quite difficult or lengthy task.

In comparison, those not born on an origin planet have an easier time travelling off-world or relocating to a new home. For most of them, having grown up in a region where space travel is as common as driving a car, they believe that exploring the stars is their right.

“Be honest with me.”

“Okay…?”

“Do you ever feel like you don’t belong here? That no matter how hard you want to fit in, or how much you want to make friends, it seems like the whole galaxy is fighting against you?”

“All the damn time.”
