Anka’s Lost Hoard

A legendary pirate's hoard worth more than a ship can hold.

Anka the Pirate is a legendary figure known across the Monillic Ocean and even along the coasts of the Asterian Sea. He sailed wherever he pleased and distributed illegal, stolen and rare treasures such as deadly suluca poison and powerful substances like ihrrum.

Theories

Legends say that Anka's ship is the treasure itself, encrusted with gems not barnacles, and that it has an anchor of solid gold. Other rumours say that he is the original owner of the famously expensive Mohrrim Encrusted Dagger, though nobody can trace the source of who created it or why. Some even say that he was the one who stole Isidor’s Cursed Ring for his massive hoard!   Many legendary achievements have been attributed to Anka even if it wasn't really him. If no one can remember a tale correctly, they end up attaching the credit to Anka’s epic stature.   The tales about Anka’s lost hoard are wildly different whichever tavern you hear them in, making it incredibly challenging for wannabe treasure hunters to pick a direction to sail after. In fact, it has become a bit of a running joke and popular sport for young folks to test their skills on the water by having their first adventure in search of Anka’s massive treasure hoard. Some come back with their own crazy tales, some manage to find scraps of history and clues that fuel the stories further, but none have found his ship or his stash.

Anka's Mark

The truth of the matter is, Anka's hoard was probably not stashed in a single location, but many coves and troves across the isles of the world. His mark is an upside down anchor that looks like the letter 'A' for his initial. Sometimes this sigil would point to the direction of a safehouse, stash or target, but only the crew knew how to read the signs Anka had left (or even where to look for them in the first place)!

I love the simplicity of this, and how it's very simplicity lends depth to the story and your worldbuilding. This sounds so much like a tale you'd find in our world.

This is a rich portrait of a character in a relatively brief space. Bravo on that! Also, I love the art, both the header image and Anka's mark. Each adds a lot to the piece.

Anka's mark is really clever. I wonder if there actually is any treasure to find at all.

first of all, for the longest time, I read the title as Anka's lost HAND which made me incredibly confused while I was reading till I righted myself. Anyhow, I love the concept and the simplicity of the article. I think I've said it before but you really know how to make the most of your words and what details you use.
