The Sundial of Dinat

Sitting in the centre of Farenthi Square, in the city of Dinat, is a large sundial. It was designed and created by an inventor and scholar, by the name of Heliano Jamatti, over two hundred years ago. Heliano considered this her greatest masterpiece and her city of birth was very happy and honoured when she decided to have it installed there.   The sundial is about five feet across and made up of three main sections, with each section being crafted from a different type of metal. The three setions consist of the gnomon, the inner plate, and the outer ring plate, each crafted with precision and care. The sundial was known to be extremely accurate, and even accounted for the differing positions of the sun in the sky over a year. The outer ring plate was designed to be able to spin, both clockwise and anti-clockwise, through the use of a small spring lever. The inner plate upon which the gnomon sits is intricately carved with a stylized depiction of the sun and each of the four seasons. The outer ring contains the hour markings, and small symbols which show the different angles of the sun in the sky.   Heliano and her sundial were a great source of pride for the city as Heliano was a world reknowned inventor, and the sundial represented the epitomy of skill and precision. These days it is still an item of great significance, though since the GBC made Dinat their capital city, it is for different reasons. They believe the sundial acts as a remembrance of the time the sun still shone and also as a hope that it will shine once more. Not long after the GBC arrived they cleaned up the sundial, as it had become neglected since The Dimming, and installed a light source that mimicked the sun's passage across the sky.
