Pop-Tails

I heard them before I saw them, a strange popping sound that seemed familiar somehow. When we came out onto the ledge of the mountainside and found nothing there we were confused, as we could still hear the irregular popping noises. Then Kentrin directed our eyes upward, and in the sky were these small swooping lights which would occasionally give off a bright burst of light. I noticed almost immediately that these bursts coincided with the popping sounds we were hearing.

...Oh, and there are these cool little lizard creatures here, that people call Pop-Tails. At least Gendaha says they're lizards, I've never actually seen one up close, on account of them being super shy. But anyway, the cool thing about them is that they use Constellation light too, just like me. Gandahar syas they build up this charge and then shoot it out their tails so they can fly.

Contrary to popular belief Pop-Tails don't actually fly, it's more of a sustained glide. The thin spines which cover their backs seem to aborb the Constellation light and generate some kind of electrical charge. They are then able to disperse this charge in a remarkably precise fashion using their tails, this burst of energy gives them a boost of thrust. They then spread their cape like wing structure and glide upon the drafts.

I was actually able to catch sight of one the other day. Mierna said she thought she'd spotted a nesting site so we hiked up there and set up camp on a ridge about a mile away. We took turns with the telescope and after a few hours we managed to spot a pair who seemed to have come out to play on a large flat rock. It appeared to be some kind of jumping game, as far as we could tell. using the charge they build up to propel themselves up into the air, each trying to outdo the other.
