Winter War Games
Guardians, mortals chosen by superior deities, were skilled warriors, diplomats, and nearly any other profession that exists, but that makes one wonder, what do they do in their downtime?
Well, if it's the winter, they... have a city-wide battle to determine the fate of a statue...
It's a miniature controlled war between factions to defend or destroy a statue, because fun and games should have a subtext, "don't get sloppy".
Always a spectacle for anyone who visited, this month's long tradition became the talk of the surrounding nations, and the entertainment for those able to spare the tie and coin to see.
After the fall of the Guardians due to the Eclipse Extermination, several nations banded together to create a sport of the tradition in honor of some of the heroics and theatrics of Guardians in the previous era.
History
It started one day when a statue was erected due to a tradition of a relatively secluded group of people, one of which had ascended to Guardianhood. Some, presumably high elves, found it unsightly and destroyed it.
This was not taken kindly, and the statue was erected again, and destroyed again.
The city authorities forbade the destruction of the statue until the end of the festive season. They were duly ignored an the statue was destroyed yet again.
What ensued was a game of cat and mouse, trying to find ways to protect or destroy the statue. After 3 years of this, it was decided to make it an official training/challenge, celebration, and so everyone got in on it.
Execution
- Build a statue at least 4 meters tall. YOu can use whatever materials you wish.
- Choose teams to attack and defend. Popular picks include Sun vs Moon, men vs women, and teams chosen by lottery.
- If on the attacking team, your job is to try to destroy or damage the statue within 2 weeks. If on the defending team, ensure the statue isn't damaged or destroyed. Direct attacks against people with martial weapons are not allowed, nor is lethal force. Actions against the opposing team members must not be intended to cause them direct harm. The target is the statue, not the people.
- If approximately 60% or more of the statue is destroyed, the destroyers win. The defenders win if more than 60% remains at the end of the month.
Components and tools
Rocks, sticks, straw... whatever people decide to build the statue with, with the exception of animal droppings... that was a lesson that only needed to be learned once.
Participants
Participants:
- Any able-bodied and willing Guardian/Saint
Roles:
- Break the statue
- defend the statue
Observance
The statue would be built on the first day of the last month of each year. Teams would somehow be selected during the first week. At the start of the second week until the end of the month, the respective teams do what they can to protect or destroy the statue.
