Reveal Power

5th-Level Divination

Placing the incense at each corner of a map, you entreat the God of Magic to reveal all sources of great magical power within the area, be they objects, people, or places.   The map begins to glow at each point where significant energies can be found, though it does not reveal anything about the nature of such power. People are entitled to a Wisdom Saving Throw to avoid being revealed, while objects, people, or places hidden from magical scrying cannot be detected with this spell at all.

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell with a spell slot higher than 5th, the map reveals more about the nature of power it detects. Each higher level also benefits from the tiers before it:
  • At 6th level, each glowing mote is given a colour indicating if it is an Object, a Creature, or a Place. When you cast the spell at this level, you may apply a filter so that only one of these is revealed.
  • At 7th level, each glowing mote shines brighter or fainter based on the strength of the power revealed. When you cast the spell at this level, you may apply a filter to detect only Strong, Extreme, or Overwhelming sources.
  • At 8th level, the spell can detect even faint traces of power, allowing you to see even low-level magicians and uncommon magical items. When you cast the spell at this level, you may apply a filter to detect sources above or below Faint, Moderate, Strong, Extreme, or Overwhelming sources.
  • At 9th level, you may combine any filters as you see fit (e.g. Objects and Places of Strong and Extreme power), and 3 times per casting of the spell you may investigate a mote more closely, learning its name and more details about it, as though you had cast the Legend Lore spell. The nature of these details are decided by your DM, and People are entitled to a Wisdom Saving Throw to avoid being investigated.
