Kanzu - The Warrior Character in Éda | World Anvil

Kanzu - The Warrior

One of the Divine Twins. Kanzu and his brother were the first two demigods to be born in the world, created by Patír in an attempt to show humanity to protect itself from Fidain’s power - Kanzu would teach humanity how to fight against Fidain’s monsters, and Temní would teach humanity how to truly enjoy their lives and avoid The Serpent’s corrupting influence.   Kanzu performed well, and soon humanity were able to raise armies wielding stones and clubs to defeat horrific monsters set loose on the world by evil deities, but there were always too many. Attempting to further help, Kanzu snuck into The Builder’s forge one night while the Divine Smith slept and stole away the creation of swords and spears, bows and arrows. The Builder’s response created the first volcanos, as the fires underneath the surface erupted with magma to match such divine rage; “humanity is not yet ready for these tools” argued the smith, but it was too late. With the secrets of bronze and blades in their hands, humanity conquered much of the world and pushed Fidain’s monsters deep underground or deeper under the sea.   Jubilant in victory, Kanzu looked over his conquered lands and realised much of the joy humanity felt was caused by Temní’s gifts, not his. Filled with hatred and jealousy, Kanzu struck out at his brother and those who worshipped him, and the first true war began. It lasted longer than any historian can recall, and much of the details are lost to all but the gods now, but here is what is known; at the end of the war, Kanzu and his brother both ascended to full divinity, shedding their mortal coils so that they could no longer lead humanity directly into bloodshed and violence, and so peace was restored.   Since then Kanzu has remained a barbaric influence on the world, pushing against the formation of civilisation in many places, and strongly advocating for warfare without the use of arcane magic. His most faithful followers are said to be hedonistic and wild, far removed from the eloquent society built by the other gods.

Divine Portfolio

Kanzu holds domain over the Blood and Bodies of mortalkind. He is the Lord of War and Weapons, God of Sex and Sports and Alcohol. He rules over men's hearts, basking in whatever indulgences or terrors might make them beat faster. Finally, he is the Father of Minotaurs, creating a race of warrior creatures whose bloodlust knows few limits.

Divine Relationships & Shared Portfolios

Twin Gods of Passion

Kanzu and Temní were the first of the Demigods, children of the Gods with incredible power, destined to change the course of history. For this they are forever entwined as brothers no matter their battles, and together they guide mortals towards their desires. Kanzu is the Passion of the Body; the thrill of battle, the embrace of a lover, the freedom of indulgence. Temní is the Passion of the Mind; the beauty of a painting, the joy of a song, the rapture of a story.

Gods of War

Kanzu and Zia have a great deal in common: both are Gods of War and Sports, risen from demigod to full divinity. But the difference rests in their methods and goals. Kanzu's barbaric Wars are fought simply for War's sake, to enjoy the excitement and the rush of blood that comes with fighting for one's life, while Zia's tactical Wars are fought only to preserve and restore Peace. Kanzu relishes in the deed itself, while Zia cares far more for the results - to win is glory, to earn glory is to be divine.
