Fidain - The Breaker Character in Éda | World Anvil

Fidain - The Breaker

In the early days of the world, when the concepts of time and movement were new, Fidain served a valuable role in The Balance by having all things that aged decay as well. The mountains would erode away in the wind and the rain, the people would age, and the trees would wither. Even now, Fidain is essential to the transition of all creations from life to death. But despite his vital role in the cosmos, Fidain diverted from his true purpose. Instead of affecting the universe at a natural pace, The Breaker began to spawn monsters and corruption in the world in an attempt to force decay at a faster rate than Ámmos had planned. These acts threatened The Balance and the fate of the universe, and so the gods intervened.   They created Kiderha, a shining dragon of justice and power, to combat Fidain with the upper sky and aether as their battlefield. The battle was seemingly eternal, and would have been so were it not for the Archonomachy when Kiderha was put to sleep forevermore. With Fidain once again without a rival, he set to work bringing chaos and devastation to a world already at war with the Lords of Old. To protect their mortal worshipers, the other gods banded together and banished Fidain to a prison deep within the depths of The Underworld, where he could do nothing but rage and plan for escape.   It is commonly believed that Fidain had strong links with the Archons, for the two never came to conflict, and the evil Yuan-Ti seem to worship both entities equally, praying for their return. Nowadays open worship of Fidain is outlawed in the Republic, and only the mad care to worship in private, if at all.

Divine Portfolio

Fidain is the Serpent Lord of Entropy. He is the God of Poison and Old Age, Father of Monsters, The Rusted God of Acid Winds. He ensures that every aspect of creation will one day rot into nothingness, be it the smallest ant or the tallest mountain. Yet in doing so, he ensures space is freed for new wonders and miracles created by the other Gods, in a cycle which will hopefully never end.

Divine Relationships & Shared Portfolios

Four Lords of Balance

Agítio, Ámmos, Fidain, and Haroch are the four fundamental forces that allow a living, active Cosmos to exist. The other gods all have a hand in Creation, in making all the wondrous miracles in the world. But without Motion and Time these miracles would be but a static painting none but the Gods could experience, and without Decay and Death there would be no more space made on the Universal Canvas, no ability for things to grow and new life to be made, and no meaning in the act of doing so.

Triad of Change

Agitio is the prime and most powerful God of Change, but Sévas and Fidain both hold great sway over certain kinds of alteration. Sévas rules over personal and cyclical change, even aiding Agitio with bringing in the Seasons each year. Fidain represents the "negative" side of change - degredation and decay, the slow shifting of all things towards obvlion.
