Acidon, A City Reborn

By Várdos Darius of Amphousa

The following is an interview with Mágos Démos Tolmí, the governor of Acidon. For those unaware, Acidon is a small city at the edge of the Republic that has been at the center of many strange events recently.
Darius - My thanks for agreeing to this interview Governor Tolmí, I’m sure the Republic at large will be eager to read about your home and the events here.   Démos - I just found out you were here today, but uhh, you’re welcome.   Darius - Between the giant ants, the kraken attack, and a cult opening a gate to the underworld it is difficult to know where to begin! But I think chronologically would be best; recently discovered underneath Acidon is an entire hive of ants who vary in size from small cats to wolves. Could you explain how they got there and any plans you have for why they’re here?   Démos - Well uhh, there was a group of folk who came to the city and solved a missing persons case. On their travels they found one of the ants in The Isles and uhhh thought it would be a good idea to bring it back. At first I thought they were crazy but their leader Garrac had plans for it. I dunno if I should talk about the details but I’m working with another mage here and we’re almost ready to start using them for uhh, industrial purposes.   Darius - Industrial purposes? Something that helps with the rebuilding efforts or separate to that?   Démos - Uhh, separate. But it will hopefully get us a lot of money to help with the rebuilding.   Darius - Well I certainly look forward to seeing this grand plan unveiled! Moving on, I believe the group and their leader Garrac you mentioned were involved in the kraken attack as well?   Démos - Yeah. The damn thing was smart enough to stay away from my pillars but tough enough to harass ships coming and going. Luckily they showed up before things got real bad and fought it off. It uhh got away but hasn’t showed up again since.   Darius - I’m sure they sent a message it won’t soon forget. Now for the audience’s benefit, we sit currently in a freshly built forum that mere days ago was rubble surrounded by other devastated buildings. Before I ask how the city was levelled, I must marvel at how quickly it’s being rebuilt.   Démos - Uhh thanks. I’m retired but uhh - wait I guess I ain’t retired anymore. I’m a geomancer who spent a lot of time in construction - building aqueducts and towers and that sort of thing out of concrete or stone. Magically building stuff is kind of my area of expertise.   Darius - Very impressive! Now onto my final topic with respect for those who have passed. The reason you’ve been so busy rebuilding is that the city was almost completely destroyed by an invasion from The Underworld itself? How did such a thing happen and did you find any motives behind it?   Démos - It was some kind of crazy cult. Someone gave them the power to summon all sorts of crazy shit and they went wild with it.   Darius - I see. And how were these cultists repelled? Was it the pillars, your magical power, the determination of your people, or something else?   Démos - Uhh. All of that and more. There’s a few groups I need to thank for it. The Golden Spears, a hunter’s guild in the city, sacrificed many of their own to keep people safe. Some group called The Champions arrived near the end and helped a lot. But most of all The Exotics - that group I mentioned earlier led by Garrac. If it wasn’t for them I don’t think there’d be enough of a city left to rebuild.   Darius - These Exotics certainly sound like a group to keep an eye on! Now for the aftermath - obviously the rebuilding is going well, and I heard that one of the Immortals even arrived to assist?   Démos - Right. There’s a lot of new folk in town helping out and Osera Teráka did show up for a bit to uhh get us on the right track. She’s gone now though. Aside from her I’ve been pretty impressed by a group of Várdos that arrived and have been working hard to keep everyone’s spirits up which has been pretty helpful.   Darius - Excellent to see strangers from nearby travelling to aid their neighbours. Thank you for your time, I’ll let you get back to rebuilding and ruling your city!
Attached is a note declaring the worship of a “Cult of the Phoenix” - presumably the group who nearly destroyed Acidon - to be explicitly outlawed by the Immortals. If they are related to the Cult of the Planeswalker banned months ago is unknown.
