Wrehigher

Wrehigher are small turtle-like creatures found in the rivers of the Eternity Mountains. They have flippers, a shell, and a very long neck, and eat algae. Wrehigher meat is considered a delicacy in many cultures.
The Wrehigher were thought to be extinct following the Second Faerie Civil War. However, once people started moving into the Eternity Mountains they discovered it was still thriving there. In the centuries following the war, the Wrehigher has been found in numerous rivers in othe rplaces. Many people have hypothisised that something about the war made the Wrehighers hide, but no one can find evidence as to what.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The majority of the Wrehigher's body is covered in a thick shell. Their underside is softer. They also have four small fins, a tail, and a long neck. Wrehigher's are aquatic.

Genetics and Reproduction

Wrehighers lay eggs. They lay 6-9 eggs at a time, and they can lay eggs two times in their lives.

Growth Rate & Stages

Wrehighers hatch from eggs. They then become small tadpole-like creatures until their shell grows. Once the shell starts to grow, they will also sprout their legs and begin their adult life. This process will take about a year. After that, the Wrehigher will have 2 to 4 years to reproduce.
The optimal age to catch Wrehigher is 3 to 5 years old, as they will be at their full size then.

Ecology and Habitats

The Wrehigher lives in rivers and pools in the Eternity Mountains. They prefer fresh, moving water. While they are most often found near the shore and on the surface, they can dive to the bottom of the river if they wish.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Wrehighers eat algae, phytoplankton, and other small water plants. They scrape algae off of rocks on the shore, and eat the plants in the open water.

Wrehigher are hunted for food in many places. They have a shrimp-like taste. Their shells are also used to make jewellery and spoons.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The modern Wrehigher is found in the Eternity Mountains, the Desolate Expanse, and the surrounding savanna. However, the fossil record shows that they were once found all over South Central Faerie and Gracia.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Wrehighers possess the five standard senses, as well as echolocation to navigate deep dark waters.
