Capital Carriage WIP Vehicle in [LN7] Sestia | World Anvil

Capital Carriage WIP

"Only the rich and powerful get to use those... an' I'm not talking 'bout the carriages. Easy enough to build something with two wheels so that it slinks 'round the corners. The expense is from what pulls it; the shell. You thought shell meant carriage? Ha! The capital came up with these monstrosities, metal men maintained by magic. Don't know how they did it since metal corrupts magic, but they did, an' now those things are on our streets."
— Ian Beers, tavenkeeper
The capital carriages are a design created in the capital of Sestia and have slowly spread throughout the country, though they are still only transportation of choice for those who can afford it.

Citizens

Enjoy seeing the colors and metals that make up these intricate carriages. Each aristocracy has its own color scheme, and some of them have been known to throw coins of the lowest denominator out carriage windows (or sometimes sweets). There's also the chance that they'll buy too much to take in one carriage and will need to pay for delivery. To many citizens, the arrival of a shell is a chance to see rare beauty and/or receive extra coin.

Metalworkers

Love to see the golems that pull the carriages. They talk amongst themselves at what type of metal allows the safe and continued use of magic, or sometimes conversely, what type of magic allows itself to be surrounded by metal without corruption. To Metalworkers, the arrival of a shell gives them glimpses of what wonders they themselves might be able to create in the future.

Aristocrats

Will use the sight of another shell as a way to have a private conversation with the other person. This can be an exchange of insults, the continuation of forbidden love, or even a small way for younger aristocrats to build up their network (for older, wiser, and more vindictive members, it's a way to stab others in the back). To aristocrats, the sight of another shell brings forth many opportunities and has a wide range of rewards.

Power Generation

A trade secret is a metal that still allows a stable, safe use of magic. Or is it a new type of magic that can bespell metal?

Propulsion

The golem grasping the carriage can move at a distance of 18-20 kilometers just inside of an hour. They have steady step, smooth gait, and are somehow able to see street holes to avoid.

Weapons & Armament

The carriage itself doesn't have any weapons or armament, though the aristocrat inside might.

Armor and defense

The propulsion unit also acts as a bodyguard. Each golem is equipped with six small metal arrows that they can shoot from there arms, and are able to take a lot of damage as they hunt down any attackers. If an attacker is caught, the orders are to make sure the suspect can't get away, which means that a few legs have "accidentally" ripped off.

Communication Tools & Systems

Each side of the carriage holds a small hole in which a tube can be plugged (plugged with a bit of mesh to prevent any spiders from crawling in) and this is how aristocrats secretly talk to each other. Other than that, there is another hole at the front of the carriage, positioned so that orders can be given.

I enjoy how the communication tubes have a bit of mesh to prevent spiders from crawling in. Great little detail!
