103 BARTHOLOMEW APPLEY IV, Residence
252 W Derby Street
Bartholomew Appley is the sole heir of the Appley fortune. He lives in a fancy mansion on W Derby Street, where he throws huge parties most Saturday nights. When he is dry (a rare event), he complains of a hangover and prepares for another binge. His breakfast on Sundays is usually "hair of the dog".
Those invited to his parties get to enjoy exquisite food and drink the finest Canadian whiskeys; thus, many guests are habitual returners, always showing up for more. Police and neighbors shake their heads but don’t intervene, since Appley so far has taken care of himself and goes out of his way to ensure such folk are “looked after.”
One of his more frustrating and annoying habits is his tendency to hop into a parked car (usually a modern and stylish one) when he spots the keys left in the ignition and drive off with enthusiasm. When he’s done with a borrowed car, he parks up wherever he is, turns it off, and wanders away—usually blocks from his home or even miles from town. His chums now affectionately call him “Mr. Toad,” after the character in The Wind and the Willows. Nowadays, his neighbors all know to make sure they don’t forget to take their car keys out.
Historical
Bartholomew Appley did not always drink. His problem started around four years ago, after his father died. The general supposition is that he took the loss hard hasn't yet recovered.
