Ani's Fountain Garden

This monument is said to have been a faithful recreation of the water-bound landscape Ani the dwarven explorer found when she "discovered" Oceasile.

Purpose

Long forgotten, Ani's original intent in building the water garden was to create a miniaturized version of the river system she found gripplis living in.   Each large fountain depicted an area where a group or clan or gripplis lived in. The main channel that connected every fountain, in the meantime, was meant to represent a lengthy river.   The plants planted along the way were meant to showcase Ani's journey and the different types of vegetation she encountered (although, she didn't bring back any vegetation, so the garden represented this with the best analogues Ani could think of).   Before the floods that doomed Ani's monument, it was thought that the purpose of Ani's monument was to honour her and her sea voyages, with water as the clear theme of her travels.

Disappearance

The garden, as well as the city it was built on, was washed away by the floods that occurred over three thousand years ago.   As the region these gardens were built on was naturally very humid and had ample water reserves, it was an area that remained flooded for a significant period of time, which caused the water-inspired park to be indistinguishable from the rest of the flooded areas once the waters started to receed.

Ani's Secret

Ani's Fountain Garden was also the excuse Ani created to excavate an area she had discovered was supposed to be laden with treasure.   During the garden's creation, Ani was able to find the old, almost forgotten treasure, which she then used to finance her next expedition.   Importantly, Ani then routinely used the garden to hide away her treasures. People enjoying the gardens often talked about seeing glints of gold and other things at the bottom of the lakes.   Ani created a rumour that you could throw a coin into the water and make a wish. She also spread the rumour that retrieving coins from the water was incredibly unlucky and could even result in a curse.   This is where the tradition of throwing coins at lakes, fountains, and wells comes from.

Seems cool, and I want to know more, but it's a bit to put things into place without knowing more about your world.

Hi there!
Well... what things would you like to know more about?

Hello! Sorry, I was going through all the entries pretty quickly and reading with my "judge" lenses on. I like the concept behind this monument, but without being familiar with your world, I found it difficult to understand its importance or context. For example, the relationship between Ani and the monument is not clear despite re-reading again now. It sounds like Ani was a dwarf who discovered a system of rivers 3,000 years ago, and then she constructed a monument to that river system? Again, it sounds really cool, but it's hard to know who cares about this monument today or why it's important just from reading this article.

Makes total sense, thanks!
