Contagion Pits

Origins

The Contagion Pits were created long ago by the Ancients to ensure the upper cast was free from illness and disease. All of thier ills were routienly purged and cast into a pocket dimension with a brief stay in The Magnificent Pyramid. Overtime diseases and sickness took on personalites known as Plague Bearers. In its history, a few Plague Bearers have escaped unleasing their sickness on the mortal world. When this first happened, the Ancients petitioned their god, Khonshu, for help. A Vigilant named El-Hadrun was sent to the dimension. After seeing the dangers that lurked there he was tasked to see to it that nothing would ever escape again, and anything traveling there would remain. This stragegy has been followed by each successive Vigilant. Over time the Vigilant's weaken from the dismal atmosphere, creating opportunites for the Plague Bearers to escape once again.

History

Over time, three Vigilants have stood vigil in The Contagion Pits before falling to the denizens. The first, El-Hadrun (serving Khonshu) served from ~1730 BCE to ~670 BCE (1,060 years) was slain during an epic battle with a gang of Plague Bearers at the time the old gods power was fading. Following El-Hadrun's fall, a number of plagues were unleased across 100 worlds. The second, Kalebron (serving Pholtus), served from 0 CE to 986 CE (986 years) sucumbed to the drone effect of the Chasme Plague Bearer, one plague was set upon Etolar at that time but was contained a few weeks afterwards. The current Vigilant, Ashala (serving Pholtus) has been there from 986 CE to the present (623 years).

Today

The Pits have been all but forgotten by the common people since the civilization of the Ancients faded from history. But a few with connections to Incabulous have come to know of its existence for nefarous purposes. It is a dangerous source of biological weapons in the hands of anyone who who can take advantage of it. Because of this Pholtus has continued to maintain a powerful presence there.
