Backspace keeps deleting forward

Whenever I type into an article and hit backspace for any reason, the text gets deleted forward instead of the text I just typed. I have restarted World Anvil, tried it in two different browsers, done all the trouble shooting to make sure it isn't my keyboard. This issue only happens in my articles (I am specifically working on Secrets right now, but this keeps happening whenever I type anywhere on my articles). It isn't even happening while I type this out. It also does not occur anywhere else on my PC. I have reset and cleared the cache on both of my browsers and restarted (including shut down) my PC. The issue still persists and is making it impossible for me to work on my articles.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Type more than one line
  • press backspace
  • backspace deletes forward instead of backwards like it should

Hello Avalon, which editor are you using?

Avalon88 @ 08 May, 2025 08:36:48

I am using the default editor for Secrets (I don't see an option to change that editor). As far as the article itself, I was using Euclid, but I did switch to Visual to see if that fixed the issue. It did not, so I am holding off switching back until I hear from you all.

Hmm, switching to wysiwyg looks like it fixes it for me, from what I can see euclid is your default editor so euclid would be also enabled in the secrets. Let me take a closer look on what is going on here

I am having the same or a similar issue. While editing a page (People, in my case), when using backspace or delete, it will delete one letter appropriately, but then move the cursor. I have noticed that it will either move it to a previous location if you were editing somewhere else in the article, or will shift forward by one or more spaces after deleting the first letter appropriately. This causes a lot of problems when it comes to having to delete anything while editing, because unless I highlight and delete it all at once, I have to constantly reset the cursor position after each letter deleted.

I am having the same issue, and it makes the quick edit unusable for me.

EntropicOrder @ 12 May, 2025 08:18:42

Same problem

NoMoreFaith @ 17 May, 2025 08:56:17

Default editor for Prose Article - same problem

nnie @ 20 May, 2025 10:17:43

I've got this problem too in the quick edit, I use vivaldi and the euclid editor. I've been experimenting to see what causes it. It does not go away when I disable my adblock and reload the page. However I've noticed it doesn't start immediately, but becomes more likely after I have moved my cursor around in the editor a few times.   It appears to be related to the cursor issues people are reporting. I'm experiencing those as well.

ormhaus @ 24 May, 2025 09:47:47

Samme issue here too

DarkDecaydence @ 26 May, 2025 02:50:57

I'm experiencing the same problem in both a Chrome-based browser

NunoPhilipp @ 26 May, 2025 11:08:32

This is a problem I'm also encountering. Whenever I need to edit something in an article I am almost always forced into using the old editor, otherwise I cannot delete information by pressing backspace because my caret keeps jumping ahead.

Syarx @ 10 Jun, 2025 10:38:37 Developer

Is the issue still here?

nnie @ 10 Jun, 2025 11:12:12

Backspace seems to be working as expected now, although I haven't tested it extensively since the cursor jumping issue makes working in the modal too frustrating for me.

13Leagues @ 10 Jun, 2025 09:43:23

The issue is fixed for me.

Xuroth @ 18 Nov, 2025 09:21:31 Assignee

The backspace deleting forward characters AND the cursor jumping issue should both be resolved! Since the issue at hand here seems resolved (according to posted comments), I'm closing this report.
