World Dashboard Isn't Working.

Since the update which changed the look (any presumably the workings) of many of World Anvil's features I've been unable to access my World Dashboard. Whenever I try to do so I get the following message: This page isn't working at the moment; www.worldanvil.com can't currently handle this request; HTTP ERROR 500. Every other feature of World Anvil, including creating, editing, and deleting articles, timelines, and images, as well as accessing my Global Dashboard has been working perfectly, and looking great! I had a somewhat similar issue in the past, which was caused by the size of my world (the amount of articles). This also prevented me from accessing my World Dashboard, but it prevented me from using many of World Anvil's other features as well. The previous issues with particularly large worlds were also fixed several months ago by the World Anvil team, so I'm unsure if my current issue could have a similar cause.

Hello, can you please let me know if this issue is on your own world or a world that you're a Co-Owner/Author/Writer on? If you create a new world, can you access its World Dashboard?

DutchDwarf @ 09 Mar, 2024 09:27:48

Hello, it is an issue on my own world, which has no other co-owners/authors/writers. If I create a new empty world, I can indeed access its World Dashboard, so I would guess it's the size of my original world that is causing the issue.

Xuroth @ 11 Mar, 2024 02:50:13 Developer

That is interesting - Can you please add me to your world as a Co-Owner so I can run some diagnotistic tests? I need to track where in the pipeline the error gets triggered.

  • Click World Settings in the sidebar (cog icon)
  • In the menu that opens, select "Subscribers & Authors" (the user with lock icon)
  • Click the Authors tab at the top of the page
  • On the right side of the page, add my username and select Co-Owner for the rank
  • Finally click "Add new Author"
  • When I've finished testing, I'll let you know so you can remove me.

Apologies for the delay. I've added you as a co-owner. Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

I'm having this exact same issue except there is NOTHING showing up on my sidebar. I can't access any of my articles, characters, worlds, anything since the site update.

    Squeakers @ 26 Mar, 2024 06:58:40

I'm having the same issue. I have no sidebar. Was this resolved?

    Xuroth @ 31 Mar, 2024 04:44:17 Developer

@DutchDwarf Thanks! I'm investigating this and working with the backend devs to identify the issue with your world dashboard not loading.   @PeridotTea91, @Squeakers To clarify, are you seeing the same error message? That "worldanvil.com can't currently handle the request"? If so, it may be two separate issues, as the Sidebar seems to load fine on other pages in the affected world (testing on DutchDwarf's world). Usually if there isn't anything shown on the sidebar, it usually means that there isn't an active world, campaign or character. You should still see the top bar that has links to Notebook, Discover, Learn etc. If you do see that, there should also be an icon with a little caret/arrow. If you see that, and can click on it, you should get a popup that shows you your worlds. Otherwise, we'll need to continue bug troubleshooting. You should be able to navigate to https://www.worldanvil.com/world/access/subscriber/list and in there, follow the instructions further up this thread on how to add me as a Co-Owner to the world so I can investigate further (also, if you do add me, let me know the name of your world).

@Xuroth Thank you so much! If there's anything I can do to help just let me know.

Heya DutchDwarf   So first of all - this dashboard is about to be completely redone but for the time being.   It seems like the issue is caused due to an excessive number of uncategorized articles in a world with a lot of articles already. If you go to Articles and Categories and place those uncategorized articles into separate folders this should fix the issue.   We will not be "fixing" this right now - since we are already working on the new UI :) (which will not have that issue!   If you need anything else please message here - I will close the bug but both myself and Xuroth are getting any replies

Thank you so much for taking the time to look into this! I don't think I'll need anything else, I'll simply wait for the new UI :)
