Few who encounter this Ancient Beast, live to tell the tale. This monstrous Fey is the result of a corrupted spirit taking over a Fey, twisting it into something that should never have seen the light of day.   Though little detail is known about the Wendigo, eyewitnesses reported a tall, lanky figure, with a strength that belied it’s seemingly weak stature. It was capable of immense strength and an uncanny sense of smell that aided it in hunting down its prey.   The very few whom survived often succumbed to the Wendigo Fever, a terrible curse that caused the victim to tear into its own family with an insatiable cannibalistic hunger. Travelers be warned. If you feel eyes on you in the woods and hear calls from deep within the forest, you best be wary. For all you know, you are being hunted by ancient horrors, that should not be named.   It would start off small, with hunters finding an unusual amount of carcasses, both fresh and old. Reports of missing expeditions, travelers getting attacked on the roads will slowly evolve to villages being decimated of its inhabitants.   And even if the Wendigo leaves survivors, the resulting cursed victims will attack anything on sight. For this reason, superstitious villagers will always keep a small offering on their body in the hopes to appease, or at the very least distract the Wendigo.   A kind soul might want to attempt to catch the Wendigo in the hopes of separating the corrupted spirit from the innocent Fey host. Sadly enough, the Wendigo itself cannot be saved. Once the Fey has been taken over by the corrupted spirit, the change is irreversible, to the point where the only cure against the Wendigo Curse, is Death. If the unfortunate Wendigo’s origin laid in the corruption due to cannibalism, it had a chance to be saved.   Human-borne Wendigo’s were victims of Wendigo Fever, a side effect of the gruesome bites dealt by a true Wendigo. If the victim wasn’t cured of its ailment, they would slowly turn into a Wendigo themselves. Depending on what the Wendigo’s victim was, these human-borne Wendigo’s can be weaker, or worse, more deadly than their Fey ancestor.   While these human borne Wendigo’s don’t have the same unrelenting power of the Fey Wendigo, they do retain their human capabilities to some extent. This makes them more dangerous, as they can utilize their intelligence, unlike the instinct driven Fey Wendigo.

Suggested Environments

Wendigo’s are usually found quite a ways away from civilization, deep within the cover of the woodlands. Small, wood logging villages within the mountain ranges would be the first to encounter this living myth.   They do not have lairs or dens, instead they are found roaming the woodlands and mountainside in an endless pursuit for prey.   Human-Borne Wendigo's are often found in the vicinity of their former home, guided by memories of their former lives.
