Chelydrae, commonly called giant snapping turtles, are a kind of snapping turtle with the gigantism trait. They can regularly grow to over 12 ft. in diameter. Although slow and ponderous on land, they are capable of startling bursts of speed in the water and can move their jaws faster than a mortal's eye can blink. They are extremely territorial and will attack any smaller creatures that come near them. One snap of a chelydra's jaws can cut a human in half and these ambush predators are not picky about what they eat.

River and lakebeds, swamps, marshes, and bogs. Chelydra can tolerate brackish and salt water for short periods of time but prefer to hide at the edge of a muddy bank and wait for prey. They are cold-blooded, and thus require a temperate to tropical environment in order to thrive.
