Trencher

Roguish Archetype

Created by Nano

Optional Rule: Firearms
The Trencher is designed to work with firearms found in the DMG and Erenel's firearms. If your campaign doesn't use firearms but you want to include this subclass, change the Trenching Expertise feature to allow the Rogue to use bows and crossbows instead!

Trenching Expertise

3rd-level Trencher feature   When you choose this archetype, you gain proficiency with firearms, allowing you to add your proficiency bonus to attacks made with firearms. Firearms you use have their misfire chance reduced by 1 (minimum of 1). Additionally, being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls.

Deep in the Hole

3rd-level Trencher feature   In a pinch, you can hunker down and find last minute cover at opportune times. When you hit a creature and roll to damage with the Sneak Attack feature, you can choose to half the number of sneak attack damage rolled to instead gain half cover until the beginning of your next turn (no action required).

Flashbang

9th-level Trencher feature   When caught off-guard, you’re able to disorient foes and potentially turn the tide. As a reaction, you can impose disadvantage on attack rolls on every creature of your choice within 5 feet of you until the beginning of your next turn. Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest.

Point Blank

13th-level Trencher feature   You have learned to take advantage of the added accuracy when closing the gap. When you roll a 1 on a ranged weapon attack roll against a creature within 5 feet of you, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll. If the attack hits when using this feature, you can also use your Sneak Attack feature.

Devastating Shot

17th-level Trencher feature   If you Sneak Attack a creature within 5 feet of you with a ranged weapon, you can use your reaction to double the dice rolled. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
