How to create an account on World Anvil

World Anvil is the best place to keep your worldbuilding organized, and having an account is the first step to do it! Follow these steps to create your World Anvil account:

  1. Click the Create your account button that you'll find at the top right (or click on this link).
  2. Type in your email address, choose a username, and come up with a strong unique password.
  3. After accepting the Terms and Conditions, as well as the Etiquette, click the Register button.

To help you get started, there's a quick set-up process for your account to make sure you have the tools you need! After clicking the Register button you'll be redirected to it—follow these steps:

  1. The first screen has some useful tips.
  2. You can choose between light mode or dark mode.
  3. Select feature modules. These are the modules available on this screen:
    • Worldbuilding: Unless you're here just as an RPG player, keep this enabled.
    • RPG Character Manager: This is useful for RPG players and GMs.
    • RPG Features: The toolset for GMs who want to use World Anvil for their campaigns.
    • Novel Writing Software: It will give you access to our novel writing software.
    • NSFW/18+ Content (disabled by default): If you enable it, you'll be able to see NSFW content published by community members. All of this content will be community-generated and should adhere to our Community Etiquette.
    • Accessability Features: If you keep it enabled, you'll have access to the Userway accessibility widget.
    • World Anvil Newsletter (disabled by default): If you enable it, you'll subscribe to our email newsletter. We send our newsletter very rarely and it contains useful tips, advice, as well as giveaways.

After creating the account, you can turn any of these modules on or off from your account's Feature settings.

  4. Choose your text editor. Euclid is the most stable of the two, although it's a bit advanced if you're not used to using markup languages. Plato is more simple but it's also experimental for now.
  5. In the last step, choose if you want to start creating a world or a character. Clicking either of these options will redirect you to a page to start creating!
