A most peculiar venture

by Illusionist Kevin

That could have gone better, or worse honestly...

our group's first venture with our newest teammate, a woman I dreaded to ever meet much less be within the same city of, turned out to be something of an ordeal. At least Cybil is decent enough to work with. A bit presumptuous and while I am sure she is more qualified to lead than some of us I'd much rather do a number of things other than listen to that barbarian's orders. On a side note it does sound a bit hypocritical to be willing to listen to Yitoshk's orders while flat out ignoring hers. At least I know I can trust Yitoshk.

Our job took us to the mountains just before the border to Dreazar to meet with the Toudaun; a species of humanoid Turtle men to investigate and bring back for questioning one of their ranks. A masked Toudaun called 'Grr.' The Toudaun were nice enough at least, Grr wasn't terribly talkative aside from growing at us. We even sparred with the Toudaun to help with their training. My sessions were, less than ideal. I got basically pushed into training with their leader which resulted in immediate failure as he handed me the same drink he gave Yitoshk I think, I have no idea since I passed out instantly from the drink. Thankfully my second training session went much better. I spared with Baka, the same Toudaun who saved us from the Lizard Folk who attacked us (mentioned in my second entry) and led us to his home. Baka had already been injured and it looked like someone had blown something up in his room. I later learned it was Cybil who had used magic to test him but at the time I mostly shrugged it off as strange. I managed to land two blows on Baka before he landed three on me. Since I'm no fighter especially in close quarters I'd like to tall that a win for training purposes but if that had been a real fight, well I'd likely be down a few 'spare' lives.

After sparing with the Toudaun not much else went on that night until I overheard some strange sounds coming from the cave we were sleeping in. Well the Toaduan, Ashe, and myself were. The rest were outside in the tent I think. Anyways I went to investigate and found that some of our new friends had been kidnapped. I was about to go and alert the others, managing to alert at least Baka, but was caught by the Lizardfolk before I could do so. Thankfully they weren't too bright and let me move my arms and mouth for a bit too long. I managed to cast a rather creative minor illusion to make it sound as if Yitoshk was bellowing as loud as possible in a blood rage as far as I could muster towards the others. My ears hurt quite a bit while the fight proceeded but evidently I managed to get their attention. Didn't save one of our new friends though. At least I avenged him...

I need to find new ways of fighting so that if fighting does happen no one else needs to die.

We managed to track the Lizards back home and found their leader holding the two captured Toudaun captive. Turns out Grr was a demon the whole time. A rather foul smelling one at that. Quite glad the others were capable of locking it down while I pelted it with Shadow Blades. Do kind of find it funny now how my fellow peers thought that that spell would be worthless to me now. Guess they all forgot that I could summon it back to my hand at any moment. Either that or they didn't bother to read the whole spell again. Like they typically did. Anyways we managed to save the Toudaun's leader and made back with a pretty sum for reward. We also gained a new ally; one of the Toudaun joined our group. Still learning his name though. Been too ashamed of the fact that I failed to save his brother to try. I'll have to get on that sooner than later.

As for the rest of the group everything is okay at least. I did owe Yitoshk some money for failing to prevent his captive from escaping but that's taken care of. Yitoshk is a tough but fair man though so I don't blame him for holding me like that. Just wish he'd lay off the obvious when shit goes downhill. I didn't live through the deserts of Nisar this long to not know how to fix a problem I caused by accident. Wasn't my best day to say the least. Cybil though, where do I begin with her? Guess it's already apparent to you that I don't trust her. To make matters worse she's a bit of a loose cannon. When attempting to come up with a plan to rescue the Toudaun she decided to open fire upon the lizardfolk who weren't attacking us and tore them apart. Seems like her days as an inquisitor haven't left her completely with that course of actions made. At least she's willing to defend her new allies even if more than half the party, pretty sure its the entire rest of the party though, doesn't trust her whatsoever. I'll give her a shot since she wasn't he one who slew my family but that's about it.

Here's hoping our next job doesn't turn into a mess like this one did.

also make sure you pick basic supplies like a tent, bedroll, and the like for adventures. I'd like to not rely on finding a tree to sleep in at night all the time even if it is arguably safer to sleep in a tree than on the ground.

(in celestial)
at least I'll have some good stories to tell my friends back home. Sure that they'd find the constant yelling of Yitoshk to distract the enemy and alert my friends at least a little funny.
