First Day in Waterdeep

by Vrybs Deaqu

Ganlahr and I arrived in Waterdeep today. For some reason they required us to tell them our length of stay and purpose here just because we're magic users, but it doesn't matter; I have nothing to hide. I told them I'd be staying for at least two weeks and am here as a missionary of Kelemvor. I feel the citizens of Waterdeep don't have a proper respect for the sanctity of life and death, especially considering they don't even have a shrine to Kelemvor here.

After getting through the gates, we headed to the Yawning Portal in the North Ward of the city. Ganlahr and I were just minding our own business drinking some ale when some girls I later learned were Camellia and Yara ended up fighting some thugs. I yelled out to them to not kill anyone because I didn't want to get involved. Unfortunately, they didn't listen and I sent one of the thugs to cold embrace of Kelemvor with a rapier through the heart. I'll admit, I probably shouldn't have killed him, but I just get so angry sometimes when people go around wantonly murdering others. I'm also just now realizing I probably should have made sure he was buried properly. I don't want him coming back as undead.

Anyways, after that fight, I figured I could relax again, but a troll barged into the inn. If it wasn't for the owner, Durnan, we probably would have died, but with his help, we were able to kill it. We then talked with some wizard guy named Volo and he asked us to help him find his friend, Floon Blagmaar. He gave us 10 gp each up front and offered us each 100 gp more. I'm certainly not opposed to helping out and I do need the income to survive in this city.

So, we headed off to the dock ward with Camellia and Yara joining us. (Yara is apparently a member of the Zhentarim guild, but Camellia said she isn't affiliated with one.) On our way there, we ran into a crime scene where a group of Zhentarim was killed by the Xanathar guild. I really should have made sure they were properly buried as well, but I guess I'll just have to hope the officials took care of it. We also walked past a cool looking purple shop that I want to check out later on the Corner of Zastrow street and Fillet Lane. Eventually, we got to the Skewered Dragon tavern where we talked to some guys that said Floon Blagmaar left there with his rich friend Renaer Neverember and were followed by some shady looking people who may have been Zhentarim. They told us about a Zhentarim Warehouse we should check out not too far from there on Candle Lane.

Once we got there, I heard some scuffling inside, so Yara broke down the door. There were a bunch of dead Zhentarim members and after exploring for a bit, we were attacked by some Kenku mercenaries hired by the Xanathar guild. They were there to kidnap Renaer Neverember who we found tied up in a back room after defeating them. Renaer said he and Floon were taken by the Xanathar guild and figures Floon is probably in one of the Xanathar dungeons. He also mentioned something about an object called the Stone of Galorr.

We also found a magical paper bird, 14 10 lb bars of silver, and 4 paintings wrapped in leather while there. One of the paintings is of Neverwinter and reminds me of my time there with Tazi. Our anniversary is coming up on the 20th.

As we were about to exit the warehouse, a group of city watch members led by Hyustus Staget entered and interrogated us. Fortunately, Renaer was able to use his political sway to save us from arrest for something we didn't do. Renaer allowed us to stay at is house tonight in the sea ward which is the certainly the nicest place I have ever slept.
