Here wolfie wolfie!

by Krug Dragnar

Rumors have abounded from a rather portly grotesquely mannered fellow known as Greg the Glut. He is worried regarding the food security for the town because of a potential pack of wolves nearby and is asking for adventurers to explore said woods. Greg also mentions that these woods have yet to be explored and to take extreme caution when entering these woods. If anything important is found let the mayor know. Seems like a rather simple straightforward task and skinning and acquiring some wolf pelts could be rather fortuitous. I venture forward to meet with this glutton Greg and gather more information. Once again I am not the only one that has peaked their interest from Greg's rumor and am joined by three new companions. I rather delicate and wiry Half-Elf named Slyvia, a Human dark-skinned ranger known as Nazeem and finally one of my brethren Crowvid a Half-Orc that wields two hammers, he has aptly named Cofefe and Snowflake. I rather like this fellow however it perplexes why carry two small hammers, when you can wield one massive one but to each his own.
We head out after a short visit to the Lady of the Lake and proceed on our long journey ahead, 6 days
After 6 days of traveling we arrive at the entrance to these Wailing Woods. The trees inside are gnarled and sickly looking, immediately I can sense that there is an unnatural presence amongst these woods. Sylvia dulls her blade attempting to carve one of these trees. We proceed to travel down the cleared passageways were the foliage is traversable and hear gurgling sounds echoing from behind from gnarled branches. I fling open the branches and before me are two Giant Toads gulping down the remnants of what appears to be wolves. My comrades leap to action and I am only to get off one reckless swing of Mursha into the side of one of these monstrous amphibians before party quickly dispatches these beasts. These toads are corrupted, there flesh is black and impure. These woods are growing more and more uncomfortable by the second. We continue down a endless maze of makeshift barriers of branches and slightly cleared areas. Upon getting to one room we see 3 goblins cowering in the corner. We try to communicate with them, Crowvid even offers them food to comfort them. They do no budge and continue whimpering and sobbing in the corner. I have never understood fear what a useless emotion, it weakens you lowers you're guard, truly pathetic. We leave the goblins be and continue our search. The deeper into the woods we venture the more the corruption spreads. A rather gruesome and horrific discovery is made unveiled, the trees are fed off the bodies of humanoids. Their roots entwined and entrenched into their torsos. I rap every sapling I see out of the ground, this desecration of the dead cannot continue. Found a door that seems to be barricaded on the other end but with some good ole fashioned brute force I am able to sling the door upwards and into the hip of some large monstrous creature. I run thru the opening and witness a large zombie ogrish creature with its head parted down the middle. These woods are oozing evil and its manifesting in the creatures that live here. There will be plenty to report to the mayor upon our return. We continue and find an engraving in what Sylvia describes to us as a cryptic ancient sylvan language. After quite some time deciphering the complex riddle, it starts with "Venture no further least you feel the wrath of the scarlet vine." The corruption of these woods must be reported back to the mayor and hopefully a further quest to cleanse this evil place.
