What Lies Beneath

by Agaric Gallando

After receiving aid and items, we ventured into the forest. I casted a "Pass without a Trace" spell on the party in order to save on resources and we tied ourselves together. We each drank our invisibility potions and ventured into the unknown. With Draen leading us, we were able to avoid some close encounters with some goblins thanks to his superior dark vision skills. There was time where we came face to face with a goblin but luckily we were able to remain unnoticed. As we made our way to our destination, what we saw was definitely unsettling. There were legions of undead goblins moving in an eerily fashion. I've had my encounters with the undead this was definitely bone chilling. Like just the shear amount, and being used to take away more life just riles me up. Good thing we were able to get past them without having to initiate them since there was no guarantee that we would be able to get away with our lives.

We finally made our way to the ruins. When we got there we saw and heard a bunch of goblins taking objects and artifacts out of the ruins. Maya also notified me that there was a piece of rubble with huge gouge marks out of it. With closer inspection we were able to identify that it was made by a white dragon but we don't know how recent it was. We made our way into the ruins and found some tomb-stones with a very old language on it. There with the name Kalos on it, which rang some bells. Our potions and my spell ran out at the time so we had to be extra careful with how we proceed. Going through a hole in the wall that was created through an explosive charge, most likely created by the goblins, we found an entrance that lead to the basement. We also found many barrels filled with gunpowder, which must be what they are using to clear out this ruin.

As we headed lower, we didn't have to fight any goblins. We had a slight problem when we encountered a hole that we had to climb down but luckily with Bardin's rope of climbing, we were able to climb down with ease. We found a hallway with two rooms on the left. There was a slight gleam in the farthest room which caught our attention so we decided to investigate it. What we found was an alchemist laboratory filled with tools and and supplies. Many of the reagents were already way past there half life, looking brown in colour making them unusuable but I was able to salvage some vials. There was also tools that I have read in books but never seen in practice since they were too delicate to make. Like, I can't believe we found these lost technology. I also found a book that was written in cypher but with just a shift in perspective, I was able to see that the writing was mirrored. While we were inspecting this room, Draen went to scout ahead. There was goblins getting excited about something.

We left the room and demolished the goblin party. What we saw was a a blown apart safe with a mechanical beast behind it. It look like a weapon of war just looking at it. It was hanging over a crystal clear pool of water with tubes of deactivated reagents going into it. It looked incomplete since there was some parts missing. Draen, went to keep an eye in the back. It was good thing he did since more goblins were coming in. We ran into the room that we didn't investigate and found smithy. This didn't really interest me so I kept an eye on the door. What came next was waves and waves of undead goblin coming to attack us. I put up a moonbeam which hit each goblin that ran through with radiant energy making them not as much of an issue as it could have been. When we thought the waves are no longer arriving we decided to make our way out. I took some of the books before we left, just in case. I used the moonbeam to wipe out any thing that could be waiting for us above the hole. We climbed out and saw goblins pushing explosive barrels into the tunnel. They were planning on caving us in!

We were able to stop some of them but someone much worse came along. There was this undead knight that approached us. He wanted Maya, which was no surprise since this is not the first time an undead wanted her. Of course we couldn't let him have her without a fight. Draen and Dolmiir ran up to him and dealt some major damage to them. That really brought our hopes up but he was able to do this suggestion charm that I completely fell for. No one else did though so they kept fighting. That'swhen shit went down the hole. He did this move that I didn't really see that knocked most of them unconscious. The spell wore off on me and I was able to regain my train of thought. I healed some of our members but Maya told me tostop fighting. I was too stubborn to accept that answer and used the item that I just recieved to create a being of wind out of nothing. It listened to what I said, which was pretty cool. In the end though, we knew that we couldn't win without some of our lives being lost so we let them go. Maya left some clues about where they could have gone. Before leaving they caved in the tunnel leaving s trapped.
