The Trek To Riverbend

by Agaric Gallando

It was a long journey through the Cerune Tunnels. Me and my comrades were hired to help a caravan to the city of Riverbend. We were an interesting selection of people from a variety of different backgrounds, if I had to say. I mean I'm used to living with diverse amount of different races from the village that I lived in Esgeo Grotto but not this type of variety. We have me a tortle who specializes in druidry of spores, Pierce a gruff human who excels with martial weapons, Dolmiir a copper dragonborn paladin who has definitely seen some stuff, Draen a drow who specializes at collecting information, Bardin a dwarf that is kind of a mad scientist but knows his arcane devices, and Maya who specializes in fire magic in kinda a pyromaniac way. I'd never think that I'd be with so many overworlders which definitely is interesting.

Anyway, we were escorting the caravan through the Cerune Tunnels when of course something goes wrong. I tripped. Well that would have been great if it wasn't into a pit full of spikes. I would think that I would've noticed the pit full spikes, even though it is dark but I got kinda preoccupied by the monotonous of this job. It hurt like a bitch since one went straight through my foot. When I climbed out of the hole, there were goblins, many of them. Of course it was an ambush. I quickly got surrounded by them which made me have to put up my Symbiotic Entinty to protect myself. There was also two bugbears there who definitely packed a punch and a mad looking goblin who was quickly dispatched of since he seems threatening. A couple of us almost went down but we were able to fend then off. All of the sudden a scraggly looking goblin came up and cast this spell on Dolmiir. Then all of our enemies started fleeing. We didn't know why they were fleeing until we started to hear explosions coming from a distance. That was when we knew we had to book it. We bolted down the tunnel, every man for themselves. I got hit by one of the falling rocks but I was able to get out but pretty damaged. We thought we were safe when we got out but we weren't. We managed to heal up a little bit thanks to the healing capabilities of some of our party members and my goodberries. We were met by soldiers of the town of Riverbend but then were soon attacked by more goblins. We fled on horseback into the town but a couple of us were shot by a poisoned/diseased tipped arrow. But we were now safe within the walls of the town

We were informed that this town gets attacked by goblins alot fairly recently. For goblins, they act very intelligibly. They were able to cut off any access from any exterior help by burning the docks, disabling the teleportation circles, and now caving in the tunnels. They were also lead by a goblin shaman with unnatural intelligence named Narashtavik. Now we were effected by them so now we're taking it personal.

The party decided split into two groups. Dolmiir, Pierce, and I went to the Undertow Inn to get patched up since it was also being used as an infirmary and to get honest god drink while Maya, Draen, and Bardin went to go investigate about the scenario of the town. We were met by inquisitive glances, but it makes sense since we are definitely and interesting group of people. It even sounds like the start of a joke. A dragonborn, a tortle, and a human walk into a bar. Anywho, we were able to get patched up and were able to get some information about how this town is going. There were also some racist slurs going around which is very much immature. Pierce and I met a girl named Gabriella who is in charge of the temporary infirmary who helped patch our wounds up. I told her about my apothecary and she suggests that I talk to the local alchemist, Peyton Cowell. In thanks, I decided to help out with the infirmary for a little bit before heading over to Peyton's. Pierce decided to tag along too since he knows a bit about alchemy as well.

Peyton was an interesting fellow since he definitely was an eccentric case. He thought that I was diseased, which I very much wasn't. I mean, I am in a symbiotic relationship with my spores who are not a disease. But I decided to play along with him, I even decided to use some of my spores to harm him slightly for fun. Made it more believable. He didn't believe in my skills so I had to pull out my letter from the Caduceus Clove to prove it. We then were able to help him optimize his potion crafting, and we were able to get a potion out of it in the end. I hope that, I'll able to do more business with him later on in the future since it will be prosperous for both of our businesses.

We regrouped with the group and exchange information. Apparently there might have been an inside mole that helped the goblins get in. The question was who. Bardin devised a plan of creating a fake levitaion crystal to trick the goblins and the mole that the teleportation circle was working again. Now we just had to wait. We stationed ourselves within the room waiting for an attack, but what came next was definitely unexpected. The town became under-siege by a troll attack. The troll was dragging a bunch of limp goblin bodies on chains. Then the goblins started to move and take off their chains. They were undead and personally I have no problem with undeath since I've learned that I can eventually do the same but this seemed unnatural. It's like they are trying to prevent them from reaching their final rest. It was a tough battle since they swarmed us, the troll kept regenerating and throwing debris at us and halfway through the battle some of the undead that we killed revived and started to attack us again. Dolmiir almost went down, but I was able to keep him up using my healing word. We were able to succeed in the end but definitely damaged. We'll need a long ass rest to heal and recover from these injuries.
