New Stars

My first few steps on the soil of a far away planet. Six parsecs away. A man by the name of Sar Gasocest told me it would be more than 20 years before the light of my sun would reach this planet. That means when I look up at the sky towards my home, I'm looking at a time before I was even born. It feels like I am a long way away from home.
 
The planet of Mokivj is nothing like I had expected it to be. That's two days in a row I've tricked myself into expecting things when I should have known better. This planet was once a rich mining planet that exported cortosis; supposedly a rare mineral that could be made into invulnerable armor. Now it laid in ruins of nothing but lifeless plains and deserts. Apparently the mines that were once here are no longer in operation; and their destruction fifty years ago has desolated the planet. It would seem my stay here wouldn't be for as long as I had hoped it would be.
 
Most of my day was spent exploring the Yitajji's Post; a small settlement that's been set up by the Hutt it's named after. Sar showed me the ins and outs, and told me about Yitajji's plan to reopen the mines and make a fortune. He said it's been in the works for the last ten years, with him flying runs from planet to planet trying to pick up people willing to work on the project. He says the planet is highly unstable, and at every effort something goes wrong, someone dies, then the workers leave for fear of their lives. I couldn't blame them, and neither could he.
 
Sar's told me of Bakura, a planet he would frequent very often, and how he and a few of the workers were planning on leaving Yitajji's maddened ideas behind in the coming days. The problem is; he owes a lot of credit. Six figures worth. Now at first I didn't know why he would be telling me all this, nor why he told me he was planning on stealing one of his ships. I wasn't ready to commit to theft like this... but, Sar told me he knew about the saber I carried with me. He threatened that if I told Yitajji about his plan, that he'd deny everything and turn me in as payment.
 
Even still; he offered for me to come with him and the others. After the nerve to blackmail me! Is that what the galaxy is like away from home? The galaxy sure feels different away from home. And yet, it's just more of the same.
