Tabitha Nightshade: The Nocturne Lady

by Davynn S. Pumtumn

He heard of rumors from various farmers of a dark cloaked figure that only walks at night. With only a short sword at one side and a black cat at the other. Sometimes people would see Dancing Lights floating around her. But were superstitious of the lights being will-o-wisps. Sometimes she would magically whisper into their ears to scare them away. They called her “The Nocturne Lady” and also the less popular mouthful: “The One that Doesn’t Go Bump in the Night…Since they Don't Bump into Anything.” It was said she could flawlessly see in darkness. He had a hunch that this mysterious person could be his mother. That maybe she was trying to find her way back to his father and the farm. So they could hopefully be a family again. He knew his mother was a dark elf. It would make sense to travel by cover of night to return to her family. He snuck out at night to investigate and fallow the “Nocturne Lady.” He was able to sneak up close enough to notice she was far too short, and not pale at all like his mother. She appeared his age, with dark skin, hair wrapped, dark spectacles and the for mentioned dark cloak, short sword and black cat. When she sensed him he heard a whisper in his ear as if she were standing next to him. “…stop fallowing me. Leave me alone…” he heard a cat hiss and the night suddenly became pitch black. He blinked and adjusted his eyes to see her again. She had casted Darkness and he unintentionally mirrored her to cast Darkness as well. Both of them were staring at each other through the magical darkness they both conjured and could see through it as clear as day. “Nocturne Lady? But, you’re just a girl” he said “…and you’re a copy cat, apparently” She said before vanishing. The next night he went to seek out Gretta for magic instruction, that very same girl was also in the hut. “Nocturne Lady?” “…Copy Cat?” “Ah wonderful! It appears you two are already aquatinted! Davynn Putnum, this is Tabitha Nightshade.”
