It has taken some months to built up sufficient reputation and renown for us to find a place on the Great Expedition, but all of our labors seem to have borne fruit as we find ourselves boarding the ship bound for the New World this very eve. All of us spent some time in Cambrow, picking up various odds and ends for our travel abroad. My companions went the practical route for adventurers, gearing themselves to the teeth and armoring themselves to the nines. I'm little more than a street rat elevated to a cleric's manservant, I've very little need for such things when a good, sharp sword or knife or a well-made crossbow will suffice. Instead, I made my focus preparing for life in the New World. Seeds from Cambrow to plant when we get there. We don't yet know what kind of foodstuffs exist there or what among it is edible; it may take much in the way of trial and error to learn unless we somehow befriend local aboriginals or the like. That's even presuming they aren't hostile to the strange people carving a niche for themselves upon their shores. I also tried to collect what recipes I could from those in Cambrow, a little taste of home to carry across with us to ease the homesickness and to make use of the pabulum we grow. In the intervening days ahead on the ship, I plan to apply myself rigorously to learning everything the cooks, alchemists, and brewers aboard have to share. I also plan on making myself useful to the ship's crew, doing odd jobs and labors that they might find easy for a land-lubber like me to take on. My days aboard ship shall not be spent as an idle passenger so that hopefully by the time we reach our destination I'll have a number of worthy connections. They may not avail me for much at present, given that we'll all be in the same relative boat -- so to speak, no pun intended -- but we'll all be more focused on surviving than currying favor. There are much bigger things on the horizon.
